Haidian River
The Haidian River () runs through Haikou City, separating the main part of and its northern part Haidian Island, in Hainan province. Its tributary is the Nandu River. There are three bridges that cross the river: *Haikou Century Bridge near the mouth of the Haidian River at Haikou Bay. *Renmin Bridge () crosses a narrow section of the Haidian River linking Changdi Road () with Renmin Avenue (). *Heping Bridge () connects Changdi Road and Heping Avenue () across the Haidian River. Haikou New Port is located on the south bank of this river. Haikou Bay
Haikou Bay is a bay on the northern coast of Hainan Province, China, in the Qiongzhou Strait. It is named for Haikou City, which is situated on the coast. This shallow bay spans approximately 12 km from its eastern boundary at the northwestern tip of Haidian Island to its western boundary roughly at Hainan International Convention And Exhibition Center. Qiongzhou Strait
The Qiongzhou Strait, also called the is the Chinese strait that separates Guangdong's Leizhou Peninsula from the island province of Hainan. It connects the Gulf of Tonkin on its west to the South China Sea on its east. The strait is on average wide with a maximum water depth of approximately . The strait is susceptible to closure during strong typhoon activity. Whales and dugongs were once common in the strait. History The strait was crossed by the People's Liberation Army forces in the spring of 1950. Transportation The Guangdong–Hainan Ferry (part of the Guangdong–Hainan railway) carries rail cars and automotive vehicles across the strait. While a bridge was planned in the early 2000s, it never came to fruition. A bridge or tunnel has been discussed, as of 2018, as travel by air or ferry can leave residents and visitors isolated when bad weather sets in. Haikou (; ), also spelled as Hoikow is the capital and most populous city of the Chinese province of Hainan. Haikou city is situated on the northern coast of Hainan, by the mouth of the Nandu River. Haidian Island
Haidian Island () is an island that forms part of the city of Haikou, Hainan Province, China. It is separated from the main part of Haikou by the Haidian River. The north coast faces the Qiongzhou Strait. The east coast faces Xinbu Island, separated by part of the Nandu River. The west coast faces Haikou Bay. Both Renmin Avenue and Heping Avenue are the main streets on the island. The former that runs through the middle of the island from the south at the Renmin Bridge to the north shore at the newly built Baishamen Park, which contains an amusement park. Hainan University's main campus is located on the west side of this avenue. The western part of the island has been expanded as part of a land reclamation project started in the late 2000s. Nandu River
The Nandu River () is the longest river in Hainan Province, China. Its tributary is the Xinwu River. The river discharges into the Nandu River estuary at Haikou city, and then into Qiongzhou Strait. The river is 314 km long, with a discharge of 6.099 billion cubic metres. It passes the major settlements of Chengmai Zhen in Chengmai County then Dingcheng in Ding'an County. The river then turns north, goes over the Longtang Dam at Longtang, a somewhat smaller town than Chengmai and Ding'an. The Nandu then goes under several bridges, such as the Nandu River Iron Bridge and Qiongzhou Bridge. Once passed the Qiongzhou Bridge, at the southern tip of Xinbu Island, the Nandu flows north along the east side of Xinbu Island and out into the sea. Haikou Century Bridge
Haikou Century Bridge () is a cable-stayed bridge in Haikou city, the capital of Hainan province. The bridge was built to link the main part of Haikou city to Haidian Island, a district separated from Hainan Island by the Haidian River. Haikou Century Bridge crosses at the mouth of the river approximately 50 metres west of Haikou New Port. History The project was started in 1998 and was opened to traffic on August 1, 2003. Haikou Century Bridge is the largest bridge on Hainan Island spanning 2,683 meters in length and 29.8 meters in width. It is available for automotive traffic only. Haikou New Port
Haikou New Port () is a seaport in Hainan, China. Formerly known as the Inner Harbour, this port is located on the southern side of the mouth of the Nandu River 7 km east of Haikou Xiuying Port. Prior to around 2016, it was main distribution centre for cargo entering Hainan, including seafood, with a wholesale fish market located at the far eastern end. The wholesale fish market is now located in the middle of Xinbu Island. Haikou New Port was also a major port for immigration onto Hainan Island. The site was first used as a seaport during the Song Dynasty. In 1953, the port was structurally improved with the addition of cement foundations. In 1973, the Guangdong provincial government invested nearly 200 million RMB for an expansion of the site. Improvements included increasing the depth of the water, which had been reduced due to silting.
