HMS Nottingham (D91)
HMS ''Nottingham'' was a batch two Type 42 destroyer of the Royal Navy, named from the city of Nottingham, England. She was launched on 18 February 1980, and commissioned on 8 April 1983 as the sixth warship to bear the name. Her commanding officer at commissioning was Commander Nigel Essenhigh (in his first major command role) who went on to become First Sea Lord. On her first cruise to Oporto, Portugal and then Gibraltar the destroyer lost two sailors to a drowning incident while on shore leave visiting a beach in Oporto. In November 2000, ''Nottingham'' completed a major refit, which was intended to extend her operational life to 2012, although she was later placed in reserve and decommissioned on 11 February 2010. Ceremonial ship launching involves the performance of ceremonies associated with the process of transferring a vessel to the water. It is a nautical tradition in many cultures, dating back thousands of years, to accompany the physical process with ceremonies which have been observed as public celebration and a solemn blessing, usually but not always, in association with the launch itself. HMNZS ''Endeavour'' (A11) was a fleet oiler for the Royal New Zealand Navy. She was named after James Cook's Bark ''Endeavour'' and the third ship in the RNZN to carry that name, though if continuity with the Royal Navy ships of the name HMS ''Endeavour'' is considered, she is the twelfth. The previous two ships of the RNZN were Antarctic research support vessels. ''Endeavour'' was built in South Korea to a commercial design and commissioned on 8 April 1988, and decommissioned on 15 December 2017. HMNZS ''Te Mana'' (F111) is one of ten frigates and one of two serving in the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN). The name ''Te Mana'' is Māori, approximately translating as 'status' or 'authority' (for further information on this term, see Mana). The ship was laid down under the joint Anzac project by Tenix Defence at Williamstown, Victoria in 1996, launched in 1997, and commissioned into the RNZN in 1999. In 2003 and 2004 and 2013–2014, ''Te Mana'' was deployed on operations in the Arabian Sea. In 2005, she became the first New Zealand warship to visit a Russian port, Vladivostok. Wolf Rock, Lord Howe Island
Wolf Rock, or sometimes spelt Wolfe Rock in the past, is a submerged rock and reef east of Lord Howe Island. At low tide, it is 9 feet above the water. The rock is named after the ''Wolf'', an ex-Royal Navy gun brig built in 1814, which was working as a whaling ship when on 6 August 1837 it struck an outer reef near Lord Howe Island. She escaped the reef and was thought to be undamaged, but the vessel sank in deep water about 10 miles off the island, taking with it a valuable cargo of sperm whale oil.
