Gustave Quinson
Victor Gustave Quinson (21 January 1868 – 1 August 1943) was a French playwright and theatre director. Born in Marseille, Quinson successively or even simultaneously directed, among others, the Theatre moderne, the Gymnase, the Vaudeville, the Bouffes-Parisiens and especially the Théâtre du Palais-Royal from 1910 to 1942. He is also the author of comedies and operettas in collaboration with authors such as Pierre Veber, Tristan Bernard, Albert Willemetz and especially Yves Mirande. Life In June 1919, he founded, with Jacques Rouché, Alphonse Franck and Paul Gavault, the Société amicale des directeurs de théâtre, of which Albert Carré was appointed honorary president. He was knighted in the Legion of Honour in 1920 and became an officer in 1925. Quinson died in Paris on 1 August 1943 at age 75. Théâtre Daunou
The théâtre Daunou is a Parisian theater with 450 seats, located at 7 rue Daunou in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. History The theatre was a command from the actress Jane Renouardt to the architect Auguste Bluysen. The building is in an Art déco style, while the inner decoration was the work of Armand Rateau. The building was inaugurated on 30 December 1921 with by André Birabeau and Pierre Wolff, followed by the operetta by Yves Mirande and Albert Willemetz, music by Maurice Yvain. In December 1971, a blaze destroyed the theatre; it reopened its doors in February 1973 with the play ''Aurélia'' by Robert Thomas. Since its opening, the theatre has mainly presented comedies. The Théâtre Pigalle was a theatre in Paris, located in the rue Pigalle in the ninth ''arrondissement''. History Opened on June 20, 1929, financed by Philippe de Rothschild on the estate of his father Henri de Rothschild, the Rothschilds' ambition was to construct the most modern theatre in the world. The architects, Charles Siclis, Henri Just and Pierre Blum, were sent through Europe to research the latest technical developments in theatre design. Graphic artist Jean Carlu designed two well-known posters emphasizing its machine-age image. André Antoine was hired as art director, and Gabriel Astruc as manager. Théâtre De La Michodière
The Théâtre de la Michodière is a theatre building and performing arts venue, located at 4 bis, in the 2nd arrondissement of Paris. Built by in 1925 in Art Deco style, it has a tradition of showing boulevard theatre. History On the site of the Hotel de Lorge, sold in lots, the rue de la Michodiere opened in 1778. Around the place where the Gaillon gate stood at the enclosure of Louis XIII, in 1925, the architect built a theatre in the Art Deco style. Decorated by Jacques-Émile Ruhlmann, the red and gold auditorium could accommodate 800 spectators, but in the 21st century, it has only 700 seats left. Théâtre De La Renaissance
The name Théâtre de la Renaissance has been used successively for three distinct Parisian theatre companies. The first two companies, which were short-lived enterprises in the 19th century, used the Salle Ventadour, now an office building on the Rue Méhul in the 2nd arrondissement. The current company was founded in 1873, and its much smaller theatre (pictured) was built that same year next to the Porte Saint-Martin at 20 boulevard Saint-Martin, in the 10th arrondissement. Besides performances of musical theatre, Feydeau's farces were first produced in this theatre, and plays by Victorien Sardou. The Théâtre Grévin is a Parisian theatre situated at 10 boulevard Montmartre in the 9th arrondissement of Paris and located within the Musée Grévin. It also overlooks the Passage Jouffroy. André Barde was the pseudonym of André Bourdonneau (July 1874, Meudon – October 1945, Paris), a French writer best known for his libretti for operettas. He was active from 1899-1936. Georges Courteline born Georges Victor Marcel Moinaux (25 June 1858 – 25 June 1929) was a French dramatist and novelist, a satirist notable for his sharp wit and cynical humor. Biography His family moved from Tours in Indre-et-Loire to Paris shortly after his birth. During the time of the Paris Commune, at age 13, he was sent to school in Meaux and after graduation in 1876, he went on to serve in the French military before taking a job as a civil servant. Interested in poetry and authorship, he became involved writing poetry reviews and was part of a small newspaper. By the 1890s, he had begun writing plays under the name Courteline for the theatres of Montmartre where he lived. Gifted with a quick wit, he became a leading dramatist, producing many plays as well as a number of novels.
