Greatest Hits Teesside
Greatest Hits Radio Teesside is a local radio station serving Teesside, as part of Bauer’s Greatest Hits Radio network. History Originally launched as Great North Radio by the Metro Radio Group in March 1989. The station broadcast on the old Radio Tees AM frequency of 1170 kHz Medium Wave. In 1996, Emap bought Metro Radio Group and at the start of 1997, Emap decided to scrap Great North Radio and replaced it with local stations under the brand name of ''Magic'', with a new format of Hot Adult Contemporary music. Magic 1170 launched on 19 February 1997. Tom Davies was the first ever voice heard on Magic 1170 and successfully hosted the breakfast show on the station for a number of years. In December 2001, EMAP decided that it was more economical for the Magic network to share off-peak programmes and in line with the other Magic AM stations began networking between 10am-2pm, and 7pm-6am. Sky News Radio is the radio arm of Sky News, owned by Sky UK. It has been operating since June 1999, providing a news bulletin service for UK commercial radio stations operators across the UK and for a number of English-speaking radio stations around the world. Greatest Hits Radio North East is a local radio station serving North East England, as part of Bauer’s Greatest Hits Radio network. History Great North Radio (also known as G.N.R) was formed in March 1989 using the AM frequencies of Metro Radio and Radio Tees. This happened after the Metro Radio group decided to split the FM and AM frequencies up. GNR's output consisted of mellow music from the 1950s through to the 1980s, including current hits that fitted the format. There were also specialist programmes each evening, including Country Music, Jazz, and Classical. Alan Robson (born 1 October 1955) is an English radio presenter, and host of the North East radio talk show, ''Alan Robson's Night Owls''. Radio Robson started his career with Metro Radio in Gateshead, presenting his first show on 12 November 1976. Initially, he hosted specialist rock music shows for the station, including ''Bridges'' and ''Hot 'n' Heavy Express'' on Saturday nights. ''Night Owls'' launched shortly after Metro began broadcasting in July 1974, initially presented by James Whale, then followed by Alan Beswick, Tony Crosby and Dave Porter, before Robson took over in 1983. ''Alan Robson's Night Owls'' won Robson a gold New York Radio Award for Best Radio Personality in a local market in 2019. Golden Square, in Soho, the City of Westminster, London, is a mainly hardscaped garden square planted with a few mature trees and raised borders in Central London flanked by classical office buildings. Clyde 2 is an Independent Local Radio station based in Glasgow, Scotland, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Greatest Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Glasgow and West Central Scotland. It broadcasts to the West Midlands. The station forms part of Greatest Hits Radio Midlands. TFM is an Independent Local Radio station based in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, owned and operated by Bauer as part of the Hits Radio network. It broadcasts to Teesside and surrounding areas of County Durham and North Yorkshire. As of September 2022, the station has a weekly audience of 148,000 listeners according to RAJAR. History Radio Tees Radio Tees opened at 6am on Tuesday 24 June 1975, broadcasting on 257 metres medium wave from the converted Water Board buildings at 74 Dovecot Street, Stockton-on-Tees.
