Gordon Simpson (Australian Politician)
Gordon Leslie Simpson (3 June 1929 – 10 May 2017) was an Australian politician. Simpson was the National Party member for Cooroora from 1974 to 1989 and served as Minister for Mines and Energy and Minister for the Arts from 25 November to 1 December 1987. His daughter, Fiona Simpson Fiona Stuart Simpson (born 18 April 1965 in Sea Lake, Victoria) is an Australian politician serving as Liberal National Party (LNP) member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly, representing Maroochydore since 1992. Electoral District Of Cooroora
Cooroora was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1912 to 1992. It was based mainly on the area of the district of Wide Bay and named after Mount Cooroora, near the town of Pomona. Cooroora was mainly a safe Country/National seat, but was one of the many seats that Labor won in the 1989 election landslide. It was abolished in the 1991 redistribution under the Goss government, and its territory distributed between the new districts of Noosa and Maroochydore. David Low (politician)
David Alan Low (5 February 1911 – 22 October 1974) was a Railway, railway clerk and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Low was born in Yandina, Queensland, to parents John Anthony Low and his wife Louisa Ann (née Bury) and was educated at Nambour State School, Yandina Rural School, and Nambour High Schools. He became a railway clerk at Nambour, Yandina, Kingaroy and Maryborough. In 1939 he married Claudia Helen Ritchie and together they had one daughter. His interests included fishing, surfing, and lawn bowls. He was a member of the Maroochy Masonic Lodge and the Nambour Bowls Club. David Low Way, a 36 kilometre stretch of road that joins coastal townships of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Sunshine Coast is named in his honour. He died in Brisbane in 1974, six days after resigning his seat in parliament. Ray Barber (politician)
Raymond Douglas "Ray" Barber (born 28 February 1959) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Waratah in New South Wales to Graham Douglas Barber, a building surveyor for local government, and Fae Aileen, ''née'' Edmonds, a high school deputy principal. He attended primary school at Orange East, Undercliffe and West Pennant Hills, and then Pennant Hills High School. The family moved to Queensland in 1973, where Barber attended Nambour State High School before studying for a Bachelor of Arts (1980) and Bachelor of Law (1983) at the University of Queensland. From 1983 he was a partner in Dobbyn & Partners, a law firm at Coolum Beach. He was also a founding member of Sunshine Coast Community Legal Service, and was involved in the local surfing community as honorary solicitor of the Sunshine branch of the Surf Lifesaving Association, treasurer of Coolum Boardriders, and a founding member of Coolum Christian Surfers. Sea Lake
Sea Lake is a town in the Mallee district of north-west Victoria, Australia and is situated on the southern shores of Lake Tyrrell. The town is located on the Calder Highway, north-west of Melbourne, and west of Swan Hill. Sea Lake is in the heart of Australia's wheat belt, and is the main township for a number of wheat farms in the region. At the , Sea Lake had a population of 619. History The site upon which Sea Lake is situated was first visited by colonists in 1838. Sea Lake may have been given its name by an early settler, Edward Eyre, from the Port Phillip area. Purportedly, the sea-like appearance of Lake Tyrrell inspired Eyre. An alternative version of the naming of Sea Lake comes from a surveyors report of the time when planning the township (which lies to the south of Lake Tyrrell).
