Electoral District Of Cooroora
Cooroora was an electoral district of the Legislative Assembly in the Australian state of Queensland from 1912 to 1992. It was based mainly on the area of the district of Wide Bay and named after Mount Cooroora, near the town of Pomona. Cooroora was mainly a safe Country/National seat, but was one of the many seats that Labor won in the 1989 election landslide. It was abolished in the 1991 redistribution under the Goss government, and its territory distributed between the new districts of Noosa and Maroochydore. Mount Cooroora
Mount Cooroora is located west of the town of Pomona in the Noosa hinterland, Queensland, Australia. The peak is a 439 metres high intrusive volcanic plug and is the highest point and main feature of the Tuchekoi National Park. The former Electoral district of Cooroora was named after the mountain. Festival Mount Cooroora plays host to the King of the Mountain festival. . Retrieved 29 July 2013. Liberal Party (Queensland, 1908)
The Liberal Party was a political party in the Australian state of Queensland in the early 20th century. It combined the main non-Labor forces, the "Kidstonites" of William Kidston and the Conservatives of Robert Philp, similar to the federal Commonwealth Liberal Party whose fusion it preceded. The Liberals held government from their formation in 1908 until defeat in 1915 after which they combined with other elements in the state to form the National Party. Ray Barber (politician)
Raymond Douglas "Ray" Barber (born 28 February 1959) is a former Australian politician. He was born in Waratah in New South Wales to Graham Douglas Barber, a building surveyor for local government, and Fae Aileen, ''née'' Edmonds, a high school deputy principal. He attended primary school at Orange East, Undercliffe and West Pennant Hills, and then Pennant Hills High School. The family moved to Queensland in 1973, where Barber attended Nambour State High School before studying for a Bachelor of Arts (1980) and Bachelor of Law (1983) at the University of Queensland. From 1983 he was a partner in Dobbyn & Partners, a law firm at Coolum Beach. He was also a founding member of Sunshine Coast Community Legal Service, and was involved in the local surfing community as honorary solicitor of the Sunshine branch of the Surf Lifesaving Association, treasurer of Coolum Boardriders, and a founding member of Coolum Christian Surfers. David Low (politician)
David Alan Low (5 February 1911 – 22 October 1974) was a Railway, railway clerk and member of the Queensland Legislative Assembly. Biography Low was born in Yandina, Queensland, to parents John Anthony Low and his wife Louisa Ann (née Bury) and was educated at Nambour State School, Yandina Rural School, and Nambour High Schools. He became a railway clerk at Nambour, Yandina, Kingaroy and Maryborough. In 1939 he married Claudia Helen Ritchie and together they had one daughter. His interests included fishing, surfing, and lawn bowls. He was a member of the Maroochy Masonic Lodge and the Nambour Bowls Club. David Low Way, a 36 kilometre stretch of road that joins coastal townships of the Sunshine Coast, Queensland, Sunshine Coast is named in his honour. He died in Brisbane in 1974, six days after resigning his seat in parliament. Country And Progressive National Party
The Country and Progressive National Party was a short-lived conservative political party in the Australian state of Queensland. Formed in 1925, it combined the state's conservative forces in a single party and held office between 1929 and 1932 under the leadership of Arthur Edward Moore. Following repeated election defeat it split into separate rural and urban wings in 1936. History It was created in 1925 as the result of a merger between the state's two conservative parties, the United Party (the Queensland branch of the Nationalist Party) and the Country Party, in an attempt to end a decade of Labor domination in the state.
