Gisle Torvik
Gisle Torvik (born 2 June 1975) is a Norwegian jazz musician (guitar) from Tørvikbygd in Hardanger. Career Torvik was born in Bergen, and spent three years studying music at the Nordic Institute of Stage and Studio (Oslo, 1995–98) with a major in guitar and composition. He is considered one of the most talented Nordic jazz guitarists.OnYourStage, 2009, p. 1 Torvik released his first album in 1999 called ''Naken uten gitar'' (which translates to "Naked without guitar"), where Sigmund Groven, Petter Wettre, Frode Berg, Endre Christiansen and Torstein Lofthus contributed. Øystein Sevåg (born March 19, 1957) is a Norwegian composer and keyboardist. His music touches on classical, New Age and jazz styles. Biography Øystein Sevåg is a Norwegian composer, pianist and music producer. He was born in Bærum in 1957, beginning piano lessons at age five. As a teen he played bass in a rock band but returned to his classical roots in time to study piano, flute and composition at a private Music Conservatory in Oslo; by the 1980s, however, Sevåg had become fascinated by the possibilities offered by the development of the synthesizer, and he plunged into electronic music with his self-released 1989 debut LP '' Close Your Eyes and See''. Audun Ellingsen
Audun Ellingsen (born 4 January 1979) is a Norwegian jazz musician (Upright bass) known from collaborations within bands like "Sphinx" and with musicians like Frøy Aagre, Erlend Slettevoll and Gisle Torvik. Career Ellingsen was born in Ørsta and started studying classical piano as a child, but substituted the piano with an electric bass guitar at ten, in order to play in local rock bands. NorCD (established 1991 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian record label for folk, jazz, world music and improvisational music, led by the founder saxophonist and composer Karl Seglem. NorCD is distributed through Musikkoperatørene, and is a member of FONO. Biography In 1991 Karl Seglem decided to create a new free record label to distribute his music. The company soon enlisted a number of Norwegian performers in different genres. A derivation of the company was the label SOFA, which focused on the European improv, led by Ingar Zach and Ivar Grydeland. Jonas Howden Sjøvaag (born 3 November 1978 in Munich, Germany) is a Norwegian jazz drummer. Biography Sjøvaag started playing piano at an early age. He had his solo debut with Vestfold Youth Symphony Orchestra at age 11, started playing drums at age 10, and switched main focus to jazz drums at age 17. Sigurd Hole (born 13 July 1981) is a Norwegian jazz musician (upright bass) from Rendalen living in Oslo. Biography Sigurd Hole was born in Elverum, Norway, and has worked in jazz ensembles and presetented content related to Norwegian folk music. He has been nominated for a Norwegian Grammy twice in recent years. Hole released his first album as a leader, the solo double bass album called "Elvesang", in January 2018. Influenced by classical minimalism, his own Norwegian musical heritage and the sound of the Japanese Shakuhachi flute, he explores the double bass as a medium of sound, creating more often than not meditative movements resembling abstract images of different sounds and objects in nature. Eple Trio (initiated 2004 at Norwegian Academy of Music in Oslo) is a Norwegian jazz trio including graduate students from the Norwegian Academy of Music (2008). Biography The trio has since its inception in 2004 produced four critically acclaimed albums, all of which have set the tone when it comes to the modern piano trio genre and expression. Through extensive touring in Europe and Asia, and faced with other musical traditions, the ensemble has during the 10-years developed a strong interaction, an interaction where collective schemes and a dynamic improvisation form blurs the traditional boundaries between composed and improvised music, and between the roles of soloist and accompaniment.
