Hermund Nygård
Hermund Nygård (born 16 May 1979 in Råde, Norway) is a Norwegian jazz musician (drums) and composer residing in Oslo, known from collaborations with musicians like Hallgeir Pedersen, Staffan William-Olsson, Anders Aarum, Steinar Raknes, Erlend Slettevoll, Magne Thormodsæter, Karin Krog, Bob Dorough and Bobby Shew, and bands like The Real Thing and Sharp9. Career Nygård is a graduate of the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium (2005), where he started his own Billington Trio including fellow students Ove Alexander Billington (piano) and Andreas Amundsen (double bass). He has participated in the bands Hubtones, In Front, Platoon, Stjern and Schap9. He is one of the most popular jazz drummers in Norway, who made his mark in many genres. Oslo Jazzfestival
Oslo International Jazz Festival (Oslo Jazzfestival, established 1986 in Norway) is a Norwegian music event, held in August, with a focus on music form the jazz genre, performed on stages in Oslo. History The pilot project (1984–1985) was initiated by Aage Teigen. The first festival in 1986, had more than forty volunteers and the event received 350 000 Norwegian kroner in donations from Oslo Municipality. The music was largely traditional jazz, Dixieland, New Orleans jazz, etc. The organization became a Foundation in 1995, led by Truls Helweg, chairman of the board since 1995) and permanently appointed General Manager (Aage Teigen), at a time when the budget was over 5 million Norwegian kroner. The Real Thing (jazz Band)
The Real Thing is a jazz band from Oslo, Norway, founded in 1992 when Sigurd Køhn and Palle (Paul) Wagnberg formed the forerunner, The B3 Blues Band with Vidar Busk and Hamlet Pedersen. They changed the name when Staffan William-Olsson and Fredrik Carl Størmer joined the band. Størmer was replaced by Torstein Ellingsen in 1995, and Ellingsen again by Børre Dalhaug in 1998. Due to the sudden death of the band's saxophonist Sigurd Køhn in the tsunami in Thailand in December 2004, The Real Thing was hibernating until a reunion in 2010. In the 2010s, Hermund Nygård replaced Dalhaug on the drums, with Dave Edge playing the saxophone. Before their hiatus, the quartet released eight albums, debuting in 1992 with the album ''The Real Thing'' and continuing with both live and studio recordings. Gisle Torvik (born 2 June 1975) is a Norwegian jazz musician (guitar) from Tørvikbygd in Hardanger. Career Torvik was born in Bergen, and spent three years studying music at the Nordic Institute of Stage and Studio (Oslo, 1995–98) with a major in guitar and composition. NorCD
NorCD (established 1991 in Oslo, Norway) is a Norwegian record label for folk, jazz, world music and improvisational music, led by the founder saxophonist and composer Karl Seglem. NorCD is distributed through Musikkoperatørene, and is a member of FONO. Biography In 1991 Karl Seglem decided to create a new free record label to distribute his music. The company soon enlisted a number of Norwegian performers in different genres. A derivation of the company was the label SOFA, which focused on the European improv, led by Ingar Zach and Ivar Grydeland. The NorCD catalog features 110 CD-titles (spring 2012) with many of the foremost Norwegian jazz and folk musicians. Julie Dahle Aagård (born 30 December 1978 in Flatanger, Norway) is a Norwegians, Norwegian Jazz musician (vocals). Audun Ellingsen
Audun Ellingsen (born 4 January 1979) is a Norwegian jazz musician (Upright bass) known from collaborations within bands like "Sphinx" and with musicians like Frøy Aagre, Erlend Slettevoll and Gisle Torvik. Career Ellingsen was born in Ørsta and started studying classical piano as a child, but substituted the piano with an electric bass guitar at ten, in order to play in local rock bands. Jazz came to be the main musical focus when he went to the musical program at high school in 1998, and he picked up the double bass. Knut Riisnæs (born 13 November 1945) is a Norway, Norwegian jazz musician (saxophone and flute), arranger, and composer, son of pianist Eline Nygaard Riisnæs and brother of classical pianist Anne Eline Riisnæs (1951–) and jazz saxophonist Odd Riisnæs (1953–). Yngvar Numme
Yngvar Numme (born 1 October 1944 in Porsgrunn, Norway) is a Norwegian singer, actor, revue writer and director. He is particularly known for his central role in the show group Dizzie Tunes for about forty years, one of the most successful ensembles in Norwegian entertainment. He was awarded the Leonard Statuette in 1990, and Dizzie Tunes received the same award in 1993. Andreas Amundsen (born 28 December 1980) is a Norwegian jazz bassist. Career Amundsen was born on the island of Senja, Norway. He attended the Jazz program at Trondheim Musikkonservatorium (2004–06), but did not graduate. He is distinguished for a European style in his musical expression. He has performed with "North" the quartet of Håvard Stubø, with Tore Johansen Quartet, in a quartet with Ed Thigpen, Espen Reinertsen's "Platoon", and at the Trondheim Jazz Festival, 2005, with John Pål Inderberg and Erling Aksdal.
