''Geneforge'' is a series of demoware role-playing video games by Jeff Vogel of Spiderweb Software released for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS systems. There are five games in the series: ''Geneforge (video game)'', ''Geneforge 2'', ''Geneforge 3'', ''Geneforge 4: Rebellion'', and ''Geneforge 5: Overthrow''. As with all Spiderweb Software titles, graphics and sound are limited because they are not the main focus of the game. Plot The ''Geneforge'' storylines takes place in an era resembling the medieval time period, but with the addition of some modern innovations, such as wiring, levers and buttons, alarms, glass, and other steampunk-esque tools. The games involve a group of mage (fantasy), mages called "Shapers", who dominate the game world due to their ability to create life as they see fit. Geneforge 2
''Geneforge 2'' is the second video game in the ''Geneforge'' series of role-playing video games created by Spiderweb Software. Players create a character from one of three character classes and explore the game's 84 locations, deciding whether to ally themselves with one of the four factions or remain neutral. The game's plot concerns an apprentice Shaper and an Agent (whose name is Shanti), both members of a secretive sect of wizards who can create life by using their own life energy. They are sent on a mission to investigate a failing Shaper colony called Drypeak. When they arrive not all is well, the player becomes drawn into a four-way war which has been hidden from the outside world. The game's development was made more simple by the use of the same game engine to that of its predecessor, though extra dialogue was involved due to the presence of four factions rather than the three in '' Geneforge''. ''Geneforge'' is the first video game in the ''Geneforge'' series of role-playing video games created by Spiderweb Software. Players assume the role of an apprentice Shaper, a sect of mages who can create living creatures through force of will. The apprentice is cast away on Sucia, an island abandoned by the sect 200 years prior. The island contains groups of the Shapers' creations, who have formed their own ideologies regarding their creators in the intervening years. The primary motivation of the player is to escape the island and, in the process, deal with the forces working to steal the Shaper secrets abandoned on Sucia Isle. The game's setting stemmed from the idea of players being able to create and control a group of obedient creatures. The Shapers and the world of ''Geneforge'' were the result of Vogel imagining how would a being possess such power and how would they use it. In video and other games, the passage of time must be handled in a way that players find fair and easy to understand. This is usually done in one of the two ways: real-time and turn-based. Real-time Real-time games have game time progress continuously according to the game clock. One example of such a game is the sandbox game ''Terraria'', where one day-night cycle of 24 hours is equal to 24 minutes in real time. Players perform actions simultaneously as opposed to in sequential units or turns.
