Gareth Cooper
Gareth Cooper (born 7 May 1979 in Bridgend) is a former Wales international rugby union player who played in the scrum-half position. Career Cooper started playing rugby with Pencoed before moving to Bath in the West Country. Cooper made his international debut in 2001 against Italy, when many were claiming him to be the successor to Rob Howley. He toured to Japan in later that year. After Howley's retirement in 2002 he was given his first run in the side in 2003, becoming first choice for the 2003 Rugby World Cup. He returned to play in Wales after that tournament with the Celtic Warriors, but he found himself scrapping with the Scarlets Dwayne Peel for the scrum half jersey during the 2004 Six Nations. He joined the Newport Gwent Dragons in 2004 when the Celtic Warriors were disbanded, but his form went downhill and Dwayne Peel secured the scrum half shirt with some stunning performances during Wales' Grand Slam in the 2005 Six Nations. Bridgend
Bridgend (; cy, Pen-y-bont ar Ogwr or just , meaning "the end of the bridge on the Ogmore") is a town in Bridgend County Borough in Wales, west of Cardiff and east of Swansea. The town is named after the Old Bridge, Bridgend, medieval bridge over the River Ogmore. The River Ewenny also flows through the town. The population was 49,597 in 2021. 2005 British & Irish Lions Tour To New Zealand
In 2005, the British & Irish Lions rugby union team toured New Zealand for the first time since 1993, playing seven matches against first and second division teams from the National Provincial Championship, one match against the New Zealand Maori team, and three test matches against New Zealand (the All Blacks). The Lions lost the test series 3-0, the first time in 22 years that they lost every test match on tour. The team was managed by former England and Lions player Bill Beaumont, coached by former England coach Sir Clive Woodward, and originally captained by Ireland captain Brian O'Driscoll. O'Driscoll suffered a controversial tour-ending injury two minutes into the first test, and Wales captain Gareth Thomas took over as captain for the final four games of the tour. Richie Rees
Richie Rees (born 21 May 1983) is a former Wales international professional rugby union player. He played as a scrum-half. He is now the attack coach for Cardiff Rugby. Club Rees started his rugby career at Dunvant RFC. He then played for the Ospreys regional team in Wales for two years, winning the Celtic League in the 04/05 season. He then joined London Irish. In 2007 he returned to Wales when he signed for the Cardiff Blues going on to win the EDF Energy Cup in the 08/09 season and the Amlin Challenge Cup in 09/10. Rees gained his one hundredth cap for the Cardiff Blues, playing against the Scarlets at Parc Y Scarlets on 5 May 2012. The 2010 Six Nations Championship, known as the 2010 RBS 6 Nations due to sponsorship by the Royal Bank of Scotland, was the 11th series of the Six Nations Championship and the 116th international championship, an annual rugby union competition between the six major European national teams. Jason Spice
Jason Edward Spice (born 7 December 1974) is a New Zealand international rugby union player and first-class cricketer. His position of choice is as a scrum-half. Spice was born in Matamata, NZ. He is a former New Zealand age-group cricketer who played for Hamilton in the Hawke Cup, then the Northern Districts Knights at first-class level, mainly as a left-arm spinner and lower-order batsman, before his position in the team was taken by Daniel Vettori. Spice then turned his attention to rugby, which he had also starred at in secondary school. He made the Waikato NPC team and played six games for the Blues in 1998 before transferring to Wellington, where he played 61 games for the province and 66 for the Hurricanes Super Rugby franchise. Rory Lawson
Rory Lawson (born 12 March 1981) is a Scottish former rugby union player who played his career in Scotland and England as a scrum half. He won 31 caps for Scotland. He attended Dollar Academy where he captained the school's 1st XV. After a number of years playing amateur rugby for Heriots he then took a professional contract with Edinburgh Gunners in 2003 but in the summer of 2006 moved to the Guinness Premiership side Gloucester. He gained his first international cap against Australia in the autumn of 2006, coming on as a substitute. He faced strong competition for the scrum-half position in the Scotland side from Mike Blair and Chris Cusiter, both of whom were British and Irish Lions. but still managed to captain Scotland. The 2009 Six Nations Championship, known as the RBS 6 Nations for sponsorship reasons, was the 10th Six Nations Championship, and the 115th international championship, an annual rugby union competition contested by the six major European national teams: England, France, Ireland, Italy, Scotland and Wales. 2007 Rugby World Cup
The 2007 Rugby World Cup was the sixth Rugby World Cup, a quadrennial international rugby union competition inaugurated in 1987. Twenty nations competed for the Webb Ellis Cup in the tournament, which was hosted by France from 7 September to 20 October. France won the hosting rights in 2003, beating a bid from England. The competition consisted of 48 matches over 44 days; 42 matches were played in ten cities throughout France, as well as four in Cardiff, Wales, and two in Edinburgh, Scotland.
