Castel Gandolfo (, , ; la, Castrum Gandulphi), colloquially just Castello in the Castelli Romani dialects, is a town located southeast of Rome in the Lazio region of Italy. Occupying a height on the Alban Hills overlooking Lake Albano, Castel Gandolfo has a population of approximately 8,900 residents and is considered one of Italy's most scenic towns. Within the town's boundaries lies the Apostolic Palace of Castel Gandolfo which served as a summer residence and vacation retreat for the pope, the leader of the Catholic Church. Although the palace is located within the borders of Castel Gandolfo, it has extraterritorial status as one of the properties of the Holy See and is not under Italian jurisdiction. It is now open as a museum. The resort community includes almost the whole coastline of Lake Albano which is surrounded by many summer residences, villas, and cottages built during the 17th century. Antonino Gandolfo
Antonino Gandolfo (28 October 1841– 21 March 1910) was an Italian painter. Biography Early years Antonino Gandolfo was born in Catania on 28 October 1841. He was Giovanni Verga’s cousin and would become a friend of Mario Rapisardi, Luigi Capuana and Federico De Roberto. Together with the engraver Francesco Di Bartolo and the painters Natale Attanasio, Calcedonio Reina and Giuseppe Sciuti, he would contribute to the development of art in Catania in the second half of 19th century. The young Antonino came from a family that already had some prominent personalities. His uncle Giuseppe Gandolfo, in the first half of the century, was the most important portrait painter of Eastern Sicily and served to inspire new artists. Another uncle, Francesco, had studied medicine in Florence and Paris and was a friend of the historian Carlo Giuseppe Guglielmo Botta and the dramatist Giovanni Battista Niccolini. Jarett Gandolfo (born June 22, 1990) is an American politician who is a member of the New York State Assembly from the 7th district. Elected in 2020, he assumed office on January 1, 2021. Early life and education Gandolfo was raised in West Islip, New York and graduated from West Islip High School. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in criminology and sociology from University at Albany, SUNY and a Master of Public Administration from Villanova University. Career Prior to his election to the New York State Assembly, Gandolfo served as Andrew Garbarino's chief of staff. Carlos Gandolfo (March 27, 1931January 12, 2005) was an Argentine stage actor and director. Life and work Carlos Gandolfo was born in Buenos Aires, in 1931. He was a director in local, independent theatres ''Teatro de los Independientes'' and ''La Máscara'' during the 1950s and in 1958, received his first film role in Simón Feldman's ''El negoción'' (''The Bargain''). That year, he met an 18-year-old aspiring actress, Dora Baret, with whom he began a relationship and married, in 1963. The couple had two boys: Matías, an actor, and Emanuel, a well-known local illusionist. Mike Gandolfo (born October 3, 1958) is a former professional tennis player from the United States. Biography Born in Fort Lauderdale, Gandolfo went to Santa Fe High School. A late comer to the sport, he didn't start taking tennis seriously until the age of 15. He took up a scholarship to Clemson University, where he played number one singles and was MVP of the ACC Tournament which they won in his senior year in 1980. For his efforts that season he was also named ITCA Senior Player of the Year and became Clemson's first tennis All-American. During the early 1980s he competed professionally and reached as high as 75 in the world in doubles, with three semi-final appearances in Grand Prix tournaments. He also won a Challenger tournament in West Germany in 1982 and competed in main draws of the men's doubles at the Australian Open, US Open and Wimbledon. Emanuel Gandolfo (born July 24, 1968) is a well-known Argentine illusionist and stage magician, performing as ''Emanuel''. Life and work Emanuel Gandolfo was born in Buenos Aires in 1968 to Carlos Gandolfo and Dora Baret, both well-known actors in Argentina. He developed an early interest in magic tricks and at age 14, began attending a local magicians' school.
