Gabriele Nissim (born 1950) is an Italian journalist, historian and essayist whose works discuss Eastern Europe. Biography In 1982, Nissim founded ''L'Ottavo Giorno'' (The Eighth Day), an Italian magazine about the dissent in the Eastern European Countries. He directed many documentaries for the TV networks of Canale 5 and of the Italian-speaking Switzerland on the underground opposition to Communism, the problems of post-Communism and on the condition of the Jews in the East. He worked for the papers '' Panorama'', '' Il Mondo'', ''Il Giornale'' and the '' Corriere della Sera''. In 2001, Gabriele Nissim founded 'Gariwo the Gardens of the Righteous Committee, which seeks for the Righteous of all genocides all over the world. Garden Of The Righteous Among The Nations
The Garden of the Righteous Among the Nations ( he, גַן חֲסִידִי אוּמות הָעוֹלָם) is part of the much larger Yad Vashem complex located on the Mount of Remembrance in Jerusalem. Along with some two dozen different structures within the Yad Vashem memorial – which is the second most-visited destination in the country after the Western Wall – the Garden of the Righteous is meant to honor those non-Jews who during the Holocaust risked their lives to save Jews from extermination by the Nazis. The Garden was designed by landscape architects Lipa Yahalom and Dan Zur after a decision to construct a memorial where the names of the Righteous Among the Nations would be perpetuated. The European Day of the Righteous is a celebration established in 2012 by the European Parliament to commemorate those who have stood up against crimes against humanity and totalitarism with their own moral responsibility. By this celebration the concept of Righteous as worked out by Yad Vashem is broadened to all genocide cases and forms of totalitarianism thanks to the commitment of Moshe Bejski. The European day of the Righteous is celebrated every year on 6 March, the anniversary of Moshe Bejski's death. Sobranie (russian: Собрание, "Gathering", "Collection", "Assembly") is a brand of cigarettes, currently owned and manufactured by Gallaher Group, a subsidiary of Japan Tobacco. History The Balkan Sobranie tobacco business was established in London in 1879 by Albert Weinberg (born Romania 1849), whose naturalization papers dated 1886 confirm his nationality and show that he had emigrated to England in the 1870s at a time when hand-made cigarettes in the eastern European and Russian tradition were becoming fashionable in Europe.
