Gymnastics In Azerbaijan
Gymnastics ( az, Gimnastika) is a popular sport in Azerbaijan. History Gymnastics was introduced to Azerbaijan in the Soviet period when Azerbaijani gymnast Lina Vinnikova participated in the 1961 world tournament in Germany. Aside from artistic gymnastics, rhythmic gymnastics started to develop in Azerbaijan after the 1984 Summer Olympics. Rhythmic gymnastics was particularly boosted after Mehriban Aliyeva become President of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation in 2002. Azerbaijan has produced many notable and talented gymnasts including Valery Belenky, Aliya Garayeva, Anna Gurbanova, Dinara Gimatova and hosted big competitions like the 2005 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, 2007 Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships, 2009 Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships and 2014 Rhythmic Gymnastics European Championships. Gymnastics
Gymnastics is a type of sport that includes physical exercises requiring balance, strength, flexibility, agility, coordination, dedication and endurance. The movements involved in gymnastics contribute to the development of the arms, legs, shoulders, back, chest, and abdominal muscle groups. Gymnastics evolved from exercises used by the ancient Greeks that included skills for mounting and dismounting a horse, and from circus performance skills. The most common form of competitive gymnastics is artistic gymnastics (AG), which consists of, for women (WAG), the events floor, vault, uneven bars, and beam; and for men (MAG), the events floor, vault, rings, pommel horse, parallel bars, and horizontal bar. The governing body for gymnastics throughout the world is the Fédération Internationale de Gymnastique (FIG). National Gymnastics Arena
The National Gymnastics Arena is an indoor arena in Baku, Azerbaijan. The venue is mainly used for gymnastics. Overview National Gymnastics Arena in Baku, Azerbaijan was designed by Broadway Malyan. PASHA Construction (PASHA Holding) appointed Broadway Malyan to develop the arena from start to finish after winning a competition to design the scheme in 2011. The construction of the NGA started in August 2009, and was inaugurated in April 2014. The arena has capacity of 5,000–9,000 seats depending on the event conducting. Airdome The NGA has an additional training hall - Airdome, which was constructed in the south part of the arena on an area of 6000 m². The dome is kept inflated by ventilators creating internal pressure. 2011 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships
The 2011 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships was held in Montpellier, France, from September 19–25, 2011 at the Arena Montpellier. Only the top 24 groups from the 2010 World Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships were allowed to take part in the group competition this time. These championships were the first qualifying event for the 2012 Olympics which will be held in London. In the group all-around competition, the top 6 teams qualified directly for the Group Competition at the 2012 Olympics, while teams placed 7th to 12th will get a second chance to qualify at the London test event in January 2012 for additional four spots. In Individual all-around, the top 15 gymnasts in the World Championships earned a place in the Olympic competition for their respective countries (subject to a maximum of two per country) with further 5 places to be decided at the test event (maximum one per country). Lala Yusifova
Lala Yusifova ( az, Lalə Yusifova, born 16 October 1996) is a retired Azerbaijani rhythmic gymnast. Career Yusifova began competing in junior internationals in 2009. She won the silver medal in ball at the 2010 European Junior Championships and briefly competed as a member of the Azerbaijani Group gymnasts who won the bronze medal 2011 European Junior Championships in Minsk. Yusifova debuted as a full senior in 2012. In the absence of most veteran rhythmic gymnasts competing in Grand Prix after the 2012 Summer Olympics she was able to compete at the 2012 Grand Prix Final in Brno where she won silver medals in ribbon and clubs behind the reigning Olympic silver medalist Daria Dmitrieva. In 2013, at the 2013 Miss Valentine Cup in Tartu, Estonia, Yusifova won the bronze medal in hoop and at the 2013 Irina Deleanu Cup she won another bronze medal in hoop. 2009 World Games
The 2009 World Games () the eighth edition of the World Games, were an international multi-sport event held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan (under the name Chinese Taipei) from 16 July 2009 to 26 July 2009. The games featured sports that are not contested in the Olympic Games. Nearly 6,000 athletes, officials, coaches, referees and others from 101 countries participated in the 2009 Kaohsiung World Games, setting a record high for the multi-sport competition. Zeynab Javadli
Zeynab Javadli ( az, Zeynəb Cavadlı; born 19 July 1991), is an Azerbaijani former rhythmic gymnast, World and European Championship medalist. She is the ex-wife of Emirati Sheikh Saeed bin Maktoum bin Rashid Al Maktoum, with whom she is involved in a controversial custody battle. Career Javadli was born in Baku. She has won the national championship of Azerbaijan several times. She was a participant in the 2006 European Championships in the junior section (8th place for the performance with the clubs); she won the 4th place in the World Club Championships held in Japan in 2006. In 2006 Javadli won four gold medals at the international tournament in Slovenia, and became the overall winner of the tournament.
