2011 Summer Universiade
The 2011 Summer Universiade ( zh, c=2011年夏季世界大学生运动会, p=Èr líng yī yī Nián xiàjì shìjiè dàxuéshēng yùndònghuì), the XXVI Summer Universiade ( zh, c=第二十六届夏季世界大学生运动会, p=Dì Èrshíliù jiè xiàjì shìjiè dàxuéshēng yùndònghuì) also Shenzhen 2011 ( zh, c=深圳 2011, p=Shēnzhèn Èr líng yī yī), was hosted in Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. Bid selection The cities of Kazan, Russia, Kaohsiung, Taiwan, Shenzhen, China, Murcia, Spain, and Poznań, Poland were in contention for the Games. On 16 January 2007, FISU announced at the conference prior to the 2007 Winter Universiade, that the host would be Shenzhen. With five candidates, it was the most competitive race to host a Universiade. Edmonton, Alberta, Canada was also posed to make a serious bid, but withdrew. Shenzhen (; ; ; ), also historically known as Sham Chun, is a major sub-provincial city and one of the special economic zones of China. 2009 Winter Universiade
The 2009 Winter Universiade, the XXIV Winter Universiade took place in Harbin, China. Student athletes from 44 countries took part in the games. Selection Harbin was selected by FISU on January 10, 2005 over future 2011 Winter Universiade host city Erzurum. They were the only two candidates. Venues Harbin now has four stadiums for international ice games and five training stadiums. Among the venues, the following are mentioned in the official web site: * Yabuli Olympic Snow Sports Center (about 100 km from Harbin) * Heilongjiang University * Harbin International Conference Exhibition and Sports Center (Both stadium and gymnasium) These venues were used for the Asian Games and were part of Harbin's unsuccessful application for the 2010 Winter Olympics. New Shenzhen Stadium
Shenzhen Universiade Sports Centre (), also known as Shenzhen Universiade Centre, Longgang Universiade Sports Centre, or Longgang Stadium, is a multi-use sport facilities complex in Longgang, Shenzhen, Guangdong, China. Nanshan District ( ; Cantonese Jyutping: Naam4 Saan1 Keoi1) is one of the nine districts comprising Shenzhen. Futian District
Futian District () is one of the nine districts comprising the city of Shenzhen, China. The district is home to the government and Municipal Committee of Shenzhen, as well as the city's central business district (CBD). Name There are two theories concerning the origin of the district's name: * From an inscription dating to the Song Dynasty (960–1297) which reads: "Lakes and mountains are blessed with fertile farmlands" (). * Written records showing that people from Shangsha Village built houses in Songziling in 1192; their farmlands were cultivated in lattice shapes, which in Chinese is a homophone for "Futian" meaning "blessed fields". Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport (formerly Shenzhen Huangtian Airport) is the airport serving Shenzhen, Guangdong Province. It is located on the east bank of the Pearl River near Huangtian and Fuyong villages in Bao'an District, and is northwest of the city centre. It is a hub for Shenzhen Airlines and Shenzhen Donghai Airlines and for cargo airline SF Airlines, and a focus city for China Southern Airlines and Hainan Airlines. The Shenzhen Metro () is the rapid transit system for the city of Shenzhen in Guangdong province, China.
