Guy Colwell
Guy Colwell (born March 28, 1945) is an American painter and occasional underground cartoonist. Although not African-American himself, Colwell's comics often portray blacks in strong roles in stories of life on the streets. His " Figurative Social Surrealist" paintings reflect on the human condition, economic inequality, injustice, and alienation from the natural world. Biography Guy Colwell was on born March 28, 1945, in Oakland, California. Colwell studied art at the California College of Arts and Crafts (now California College of the Arts). After completing two years there, he dropped out to travel and get some life and work experience. When he had worked an almost two-year stint as a sculptor for Mattel, and was preparing his return to college. He was arrested for draft refusal and sentenced to two years in federal prison at McNeil Island Corrections Center, in Washington state. Colorist
In comics, a colorist is responsible for adding color to black-and-white line art. For most of the 20th century this was done using brushes and dyes which were then used as guides to produce the printing plates. Since the late 20th century it is most often done using digital media, with printing separations produced electronically. Although most American colorists work directly for comics publishers (either as employees or freelancers), there are a few coloring studios which offer their services to publishers. American Color, Olyoptics, Digital Chameleon were the companies notable in this field. Kitchen Sink Press
Kitchen Sink Press was a comic book publishing company founded by Denis Kitchen in 1970. Kitchen Sink Press was a pioneering publisher of underground comics, and was also responsible for numerous republications of classic comic strips in hardcover and softcover volumes. One of their best-known products was the first full reprint of Will Eisner's ''The Spirit''—first in magazine format, then in standard comic book format. The company closed in 1999. History Origins In 1969 Milwaukee artist Denis Kitchen decided to self-publish his comics and cartoons in the magazine ''Mom's Homemade Comics'', inspired in part by the seminal underground comix titles ''Bijou Funnies'' and ''Zap Comix''. Pritikin (May 6, 1929–February 13, 2022), commonly known as Bob Pritikin, was an American advertising executive, creative director, author, art collector, and ''bon vivant'' active on the San Francisco social scene. Early life and career Pritikin was born on May 6, 1929, in Chicago, Illinois, to parents Esther Theodosia (née Burr Sherrard), and jazz musician, Arnold "Arnie" Pritikin of Russian Jewish heritage. Abu Ghraib prison ( ar, سجن أبو غريب, ''Sijn Abū Ghurayb'') was a prison complex in Abu Ghraib, Iraq, located west of Baghdad. Abu Ghraib prison was opened in the 1950s and served as a maximum-security prison with torture, weekly executions, and poor living conditions. Auburn is a city in and the county seat of Placer County, California, United States. Its population was 13,776 during the 2020 census.
