Egide Charles Gustave, Baron Wappers (23 August 18036 December 1874) was a Belgian painter. William Duffield (painter)
William Duffield (1816–1863) was a British still-life painter. Life Duffield was born at Bath in 1816, and educated in that city, was the second son of Charles Duffield, at one time proprietor of the Royal Union Library. At an early age he displayed a decided predilection and talent for drawing. George Doo, the engraver, having been struck by Duffield's highly elaborated pen-and-ink sketches and faithful copies of his engravings, offered to take him as his pupil without a premium. A few years later he placed himself under George Lance, and was noted for his unremitting attention and assiduity as a student of the Royal Academy. After completing the usual course of study in London, he returned to Bath, and later on proceeded to Antwerp, where, under Egide Charles Gustave Wappers, he worked for two years. Louis Philippe (6 October 1773 – 26 August 1850) was King of the French from 1830 to 1848, and the penultimate monarch of France. As Louis Philippe, Duke of Chartres, he distinguished himself commanding troops during the Revolutionary Wars and was promoted to lieutenant general by the age of nineteen, but he broke with the Republic over its decision to execute King Louis XVI. Wilhelm Ferdinand Pauwels ( ˆpÊŒu̯əls 13 April 1830, Ekeren – 26 March 1904, Dresden) was a Belgian history painter who lived and worked in Germany. Life From 1842 to 1850, he studied at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (Antwerp), under Gustave Wappers and Nicaise De Keyser, where he became an outstanding colorist. In 1852 he won the Prix de Rome (Belgium) for his painting ''Coriolanus at Rome'' and was able to spend four years studying in Italy. From 1862 to 1872, he was the Professor of History Painting at the Weimar Saxon-Grand Ducal Art School. Leon Pohle, Max Liebermann and Carl Rodeck were among his students there. This period was especially productive for him and he completed seven large wall panels at the Wartburg, depicting the life of Martin Luther. Ludwig von Hagn (or Louis von Hagn; 23 November 1819 – 15 January 1898) was a German genre painter. Biography He was born in Munich, the son of a businessman Karl von Hagn and his wife Josepha Schwab. His older sister, Charlotte von Hagn, was a well-known actress. After a brief public education, he followed his family's wishes and entered the local Cadet School. Following a visit to Berlin with his sister in 1840, he developed an interest in art. Soon after, he left the Cadet Corps and became a student of the marine painter Wilhelm Krause. Upon returning to Munich, he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts, where his instructors included the history painter Clemens von Zimmermann and the landscape painter Albert Zimmermann (no relation). Jaroslav ÄŒermák (1 September 1830 – 23 April 1878) was a Czech painter known primarily for his history paintings. Many of his paintings are in the collection of the National Gallery in Prague. Biography ÄŒermák was born in Prague. His birth house at ''Betlémské námÄ›stà 10'' (Betlémské Square No. 10) has since been decorated with a commemorative statue of a girl crowned with laurel and with a golden inscription of his surname. As a child, ÄŒermák suffered an injury of the hip, and due to subsequent complications he spent a part of his childhood strapped to the bed in a narrow chest. This accident apparently inspired his artistic beginnings, as while in bed, deprived of the possibility of moving, he found an interest in drawing.
