The Caulfield Guineas Prelude is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 3 Thoroughbred horse race for colts and geldings aged three years old, under set weights and penalties conditions over a distance of 1400 metres, held at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia in late September. Total prize money for the race is A$300,000. This event is a preparation race for the prestigious Group 1 Caulfield Guineas later in October at Caulfield. Caulfield Racecourse
Caulfield Racecourse Reserve is located nine kilometres from the Melbourne CBD, on the boundary of Caulfield and Caulfield East in Melbourne's south eastern suburbs. The Reserve was set aside for three purposes, racing, recreation and a public park. Elvstroem
Elvstroem (foaled 14 November 2000 in Australia) was a bay Thoroughbred racehorse, by world champion sire Danehill from the former champion three-year-old filly, Circles of Gold. Dam Circles of Gold, is a 1991 chestnut mare by the Australasian Champion Sire and Broodmare sire Marscay. She was bred at Widden Stud, where her sire used to stand. Circles of Gold was purchased by McDonald's Licensees - Frank Tagg, Frank Meduri and Gary Moffitt at the sales and raced in their famous gold/white and red colours. Circles of Gold faced the starter on 43 occasions, winning 6 and placing in a further a 13 races. Her most notable victory was the 1995 AJC Oaks, she also placed in the Group 1 Caulfield Cup of 1996 to the now deceased filly Arctic Scent, a race her son would capture in 2004. Apache Cat
Apache Cat (foaled 2002) is an Australian Thoroughbred racehorse who had 43 starts for 19 wins (including eight Group One (G1) victories) and was placed on another 11 occasions from for just under $4.6 million in prize money. He was born and bred at Chatswood Stud in Victoria. He is a strikingly marked, baldy faced, chestnut gelding by the shuttle stallion, Lion Cavern (USA) from Tennessee Blaze by Whiskey Road (USA). Apache Cat was bred by Mr P.F. Radford and Ms R Lawrie of Victoria. Epaulette (horse)
Epaulette (foaled 9 November 2009) is a multiple Group One winning thoroughbred racehorse and successful stallion. Background Epaulette was homebred by Darley Stud and is a three-quarter brother to Group One winning stallion, Helmet. Racing career Epaulette won the Black Opal Stakes as a two-year-old. As a three-year-old he had success in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude and the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes. He also ran second behind the unbeaten Black Caviar in her final ever start in the 2013 TJ Smith Stakes. Epaulette won his second Group 1 when successful in the Doomben 10,000. Alligator Blood (foaled 19 September 2016) is a multiple Group 1 winning Australian bred thoroughbred racehorse. Background Bred by Australian entrepreneur Gerry Harvey, Alligator Blood was sold at the 2018 Magic Millions sale (Lot 22) for A$55,000 to the Ezybonds No 1 Syndicate. Racing career Alligator Blood's first Group 1 victory was in the 2020 Australian Guineas. In early 2022, Alligator Blood was banned from racing in the state of New South Wales. Group races, also known as Pattern races, or Graded races in some jurisdictions, are the highest level of races in Thoroughbred horse racing.
