Gudmund Seland
Gudmund Seland (11 November 1907 – 1996) was a Norwegian resistance member and newspaper editor. Seland was born in Flekkefjord. He worked as a book printer before the Second World War, but together with his brother Johannes Seland he was involved in the resistance movement during the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany. Seland was arrested on 4 April 1944, and was held at Gestapo Headquarters in Kristiansand (in what had been the State Archive building). From 5 August 1944 until Victory in Europe Day (8 May 1945) Seland was imprisoned in Grini concentration camp. After the war he became deputy mayor of Nes, serving as mayor from 1952 to 1956. The Norwegian resistance (Norwegian: ''Motstandsbevegelsen'') to the occupation of Norway by Nazi Germany began after Operation Weserübung in 1940 and ended in 1945. ''Agder Flekkefjords Tidende'' is the local newspaper for the southern Norwegian town of Flekkefjord, and the surrounding region of western Vest Agder and eastern Rogaland. Grini Concentration Camp Survivors
Grini is a district in northeastern Bærum, Norway. Concentration camp The name Grini is best known from the concentration camp of the same name, but this camp lay further west and had no actual connection to the Grini area. History The name Grini is a variant of ''Granvin'' ( a placename used elsewhere), and stems from spruce trees in the area. The Old Norse form was Grǫnin. The farm Grini is known at least since 1348, when it was parted into a northern and a southern part. Both farms belonged to the Church of Norway, but the crown usurped the property following the Protestant Reformation. The dwelling house was erected in 1658, three years before the property was sold from the crown to a private person. Between the mid-seventeenth century and the mid-nineteenth century the property was owned by the Leuch, Anker and Wedel-Jarlsberg families. Nes, Vest-Agder
Nes is a former municipality located in the old Vest-Agder county in Norway. The municipality existed from 1893 until its dissolution in 1965. The municipality is located in the southwestern part of the present-day municipality of Flekkefjord. Its administrative centre was the village of Nes, located just outside the town of Flekkefjord. History The municipality of Nes was established on 8 October 1893 when the old municipality of Nes og Hitterø was split into two: Nes and Hitterø. At the time of the split, Nes had a population of 1,704. In 1942, a part of Nes with 377 inhabitants was moved to the neighboring town of Flekkefjord. In the 1960s, there were major municipal mergers across Norway due to the work of the Schei Committee.
