Greg Newton
Gregory Michael Newton (born September 7, 1974) is a Canadian former professional basketball player. He played four years of college basketball at Duke University and served as team captain during his 1996–97 Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team, senior year. College career He was a center for the Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team from 1994 to 1997, playing for coach Mike Krzyzewski. Newton was team captain in his senior season. He averaged 7.6 points per game for his Duke career. His best NCAA season came in 1995-95 (12.2 points, 8.2 rebounds a game). Newton was suspended from Duke University, Duke in 1995 for two semesters for cheating on a computer science exam. Professional career Newton began his professional with the USBL's Raleigh Cougars. The Cougars promoted him by citing his greatest accomplishment - at the time, he was one away from Duke's top 10 in blocks. Power Forward (basketball)
The power forward (PF), also known as the four or strong forward, is a position in basketball. Power forwards play a role similar to centers. When on offense, they typically play with their backs towards the basket. When on defense, they typically position themselves under the basket in a zone defense or against the opposing power forward in man-to-man defense. The power forward position entails a variety of responsibilities, one of which is rebounding. Many power forwards are noted for their mid-range jump-shot, and several players have become very accurate from . Earlier, these skills were more typically exhibited in the European style of play. USBL
The United States Basketball League (USBL) was a professional men's spring basketball league. The league was formed in 1985 and ceased operations in 2008. The USBL started in 1985 as one of the first basketball leagues to play a late-spring to early-summer schedule. The league quickly became known as a development league for players, with many players moving up to the National Basketball Association, NBA and many more playing in Europe after stints here. In 1996, the league made a stock offering, a rarity among sports leagues. However, in later years, the league declined as rival leagues appeared and USBL had a tougher time replacing teams that folded.
