Greetje Donker
Maria Margaretha "Greetje" Donker (December 13, 1906 – February 3, 1993) was a Dutch dancer. She was born in Amsterdam. She was associated with Florrie Rodrigo in the group Les Quatres Femmes Rodrigo, and she also performed with Ballet der Lage Landen. She provided the choreography and costume design for ''Modeshow'' by the Scapino Ballet. Donker was a member of the editorial staff for ''De Vonk'', an underground socialist newspaper published during World War II. During the German occupation of the Netherlands, she hid Jews in her home and found shelter for others. In 1986, Donker was named Righteous Among the Nations by Yad Vashem, the World Holocaust Remembrance Center. Donker died in Amsterdam at the age of 86. Florrie Rodrigo
Flora Juda Rodrigues, known as Florrie Rodrigo, (September 3, 1893 – July 11, 1996) was a Dutch dancer, choreographer, and educator considered to be one of the pioneers of modern dance in the Netherlands . The daughter of Mordechaij Rodrigues and Rebecca Reindorp, both diamond workers, she was born in Amsterdam. She became involved with De Universalisten, an artistic group based in Amsterdam. In 1920, she moved to Berlin. Her performance at an event there led to a month-long engagement at the cabaret Die Rakete. Rodrigo grew in popularity because her style of dance fitted with the Expressionist dance movement in Germany that was prevalent at the time. However, in 1924, due to growing anti-Semitism in Germany, she returned to Amsterdam, where she taught dance during the day and performed in the evenings. Righteous Among the Nations ( he, חֲסִידֵי אֻמּוֹת הָעוֹלָם, ; "righteous (plural) of the world's nations") is an honorific used by the State of Israel to describe non-Jews who risked their lives during the Holocaust to save Jews from extermination by the Nazis for altruistic reasons. The term originates with the concept of " righteous gentiles", a term used in rabbinic Judaism to refer to non-Jews, called , who abide by the Seven Laws of Noah. Yad Vashem ( he, יָד וַשֵׁם; literally, "a memorial and a name") is Israel's official memorial to the victims of the Holocaust. It is dedicated to preserving the memory of the Jews who were murdered; honoring Jews who fought against their Nazi oppressors and Gentiles who selflessly aided Jews in need; and researching the phenomenon of the Holocaust in particular and genocide in general, with the aim of avoiding such events in the future.
