Gideon Granger
Gideon Granger (July 19, 1767 – December 31, 1822) was an early American politician and lawyer. He was the father of fellow Postmaster General and U.S. Representative Francis Granger. Early life Granger was born in Suffield, Connecticut on July 19, 1767. He was the son of Gideon Granger (1735–1800) and Tryphosia (née Kent) Granger (1738–1796). He attended and graduated from Yale University and became a lawyer. Career Granger was considered a brilliant political essayist. Using the pseudonyms Algernon Sydney and Epaminondas many of his writings, defending Jeffersonian principles, were published in many pamphlets. He was a member of the Connecticut House of Representatives and ran unsuccessfully for the United States Congress in 1798. A staunch supporter of Thomas Jefferson, Granger was appointed as Postmaster General at the start of his term in 1801. Makandal Akhenation Daaga (born Geddes Granger; 13 August 1935 – 8 August 2016) was a Trinidad and Tobago political activist and former revolutionary. He was the leader of the 1970 Black Power Revolution. During the unrest he was arrested and charged. He rallied against inequalities towards black citizens in Trinidad. Francis Granger (December 1, 1792 – August 31, 1868) was an American politician who represented Ontario County, New York, in the United States House of Representatives for three non-consecutive terms. He was a leading figure in the state and national Whig Party, particularly in its moderate-conservative faction. He served as a Whig vice presidential nominee on the party's multi-candidate 1836 ticket and, in that role, became the only person to ever lose a contingent election for the vice presidency in the U.S. Senate. He also served briefly in 1841 as United States Postmaster General in the cabinet of William Henry Harrison. David Granger (born 23 January 1955) is a former Australian rules footballer who played for the St Kilda Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL) and Port Adelaide Football Club in the South Australian National Football League (SANFL). Port Adelaide Granger played for Port Adelaide Football Club in the SANFL between 1975 and 1982. David Granger CBE (January 26, 1903 – September 27, 2002) was an American bobsledder and businessman who competed in the late 1920s. He won a silver medal in the five-man bobsleigh event at the 1928 Winter Olympics in St. Moritz. He died in New York City. Granger graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy and Yale, and attended Christ's College, Cambridge. He married in 1950 and had a son. He held a New York Stock Exchange seat for longer than anyone else in history - from 1926 until his death in 2002. He joined his father's Wall Street firm, Sulzbacher, Granger & Co. (now a part of Ingalls & Snyder), at age 23 and purchased his seat for $143,000.
