Gottfried Preyer
Gottfried von Preyer (15 March 1807 – 9 May 1901) was an Austrian composer, conductor and teacher. Preyer studied with Simon Sechter from 1828 to 1834. He became professor of harmony and composition at the University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna, Vienna Conservatory in 1839, and from 1844 to 1849 he was director of the conservatory. He was also Vizehofkapellmeister and Domkapellmeister of St. Stephen's Cathedral, Vienna, St. Stephan. He founded children's hospital Gottfried von Preyer'sches Kinderspital bearing his name. He was born in Hausbrunn and died in Vienna. Simon Sechter
Simon Sechter (11 October 1788 – 10 September 1867) was an Austrian music theorist, teacher, organist, conductor and composer. He was one of the most prolific composers who ever lived, although his music is largely forgotten and he is now mainly remembered as a strict music teacher, most notably of Anton Bruckner. Carl Christian Müller (18311914) compiled and adapted Sechter's ''Die richtige Folge der Grundharmonien'' as ''The Correct Order of Fundamental Harmonies: A Treatise on Fundamental Basses, and their Inversions and Substitutes'' (Wm. A. Pond, 1871; G. Schirmer, 1898). Biography Sechter was born in Friedberg (Frymburk), Bohemia, then part of the Austrian Empire, and moved to Vienna in 1804, succeeding Jan Václav Voříšek as court organist there in 1824. In music, harmony is the process by which individual sounds are joined together or composed into whole units or compositions. Often, the term harmony refers to simultaneously occurring frequencies, pitches ( tones, notes), or chords.
