Gordon Wright (footballer)
Edward Gordon Dundas Wright (3 October 1884 – 5 June 1947) was an English amateur footballer who competed in the 1912 Summer Olympics, being part of the English team, who won the gold medal in the football tournament. He played one match in this team. He was the captain of Hull City team for seven seasons in a row. Club career After attending St Lawrence College in Ramsgate, Wright went up to Queen's College in Cambridge, where he soon earned a place in the University XI for three years (1904–06), where he stood out for his excellent ball control and tactical knowledge as a outside left. On leaving Cambridge, he accepted a post at Hymer's College in Hull, teaching Natural History and Science, and in the same year, he was elected captain of Hull City for whom he played 152 league games. Newcastle-under-Lyme ( RP: , ) is a market town and the administrative centre of the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire, England. In sport, a cap is a player's appearance in a game at international level. The term dates from the practice in the United Kingdom of awarding a cap to every player in an international match of rugby football and association football. In the early days of football, the concept of each team wearing a set of matching shirts had not been universally adopted, so each side would distinguish itself from the other by wearing a specific sort of cap. An early illustration of the first international football match between Scotland and England in 1872 shows the Scottish players wearing cowls, and the English wearing a variety of school caps. Swindon () is a town and unitary authority with Borough status in the United Kingdom, borough status in Wiltshire, England. The County Ground (currently known as the Energy Check County Ground for sponsorship purposes) is a stadium located near the town centre of Swindon, Wiltshire, England, and has been home to Swindon Town Football Club since 1896. The current capacity of 15,728, all-seated, has been at that level since the mid-1990s. A record attendance of 32,000 was set on 15 January 1972, against Arsenal in the third round of the FA Cup. Anlaby Road
Anlaby Road was a sports venue in Hull. The ground was used for football club Hull City between 1906 and 1939. The record attendance was 32,000 in a FA Cup game against Newcastle United. The stands were bombed during the Second World War but Hull City used the site for training and reserve matches until 1965, when a railway line was built over the pitch. History Hull City football club played its first game at Dairycoates then seventeen games at The Circle cricket ground. The club then moved to their own ground, Anlaby Road adjacent to the Circle. Mariendorf () is a locality in the southern Tempelhof-Schöneberg borough of Berlin. Geography Mariendorf is situated between the localities of Tempelhof in the north and Marienfelde and Lichtenrade in the south. The 1908 Summer Olympics (officially the Games of the IV Olympiad and also known as London 1908) were an international multi-sport event held in London, England, United Kingdom, from 27 April to 31 October 1908. The 1908 Games were originally scheduled to be held in Rome, but were relocated on financial grounds following the violent eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 1906, which claimed over 100 lives; Rome eventually hosted the Games in 1960. At the 1908 Summer Olympics in London, England, an official football tournament between national representative selections was contested for the first time; football had been played between club teams at the Games of 1900 and 1904. Eight entries were accepted, and were included in the tournament draw, including two from France: the main team and a B team.
