Goodnight Nurse
Goodnight Nurse was a New Zealand pop punk band formed in Auckland in 2001. The group originally began as a trio, but later changed to a four-piece prior to the release of their second album. It consisted of lead vocalist Joel Little, guitarist and back up vocalist Sam McCarthy, bassist Rowan Crowe, with drummer and back up vocalist Jaden Parkes. The band has released two studio albums, ''Always and Never'' (2006) and ''Keep Me On Your Side'' (2008). Both peaked at number five on the New Zealand Top 40 Album chart. The albums combined have spawned nine singles to date, with Goodnight Nurse having a top 40 single in New Zealand every year since 2004, the most recent being 2009's "Lay With Me". The album was the follow-up to their successful debut album, '' Always and Never''. It peaked at number five on New Zealand's RIANZ chart. The album has produced three singles to date. "The Night" was released in Australia and New Zealand on 4 February 2008, with a music video for the song released on 24 February 2008. The second single from the album was "I Need This", it released on 5 May 2008. The third single "Serpent Queen Pt. 2" was released on 'free-to-download' on New Zealand's iTunes, which accelerated the album's success. Kelis Rogers-Mora (; born August 21, 1979), known mononymously as Kelis, is an American singer, songwriter and a professionally trained chef. At age 14, she was admitted to New York's Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School of Music & Art and Performing Arts, where she learned to play the saxophone and won a spot in the Girls Choir of Harlem. After she graduated from high school in 1997, Kelis took on a variety of jobs before landing a backup vocal slot on an album track called "Fairytalez", released by the American hip hop group Gravediggaz. The Big Day Out (BDO) was an annual music festival that was held in five Australian cities: Sydney, Melbourne, Gold Coast, Adelaide, and Perth, as well as Auckland, New Zealand. The festival was held during summer, typically in January of each year but was sometimes held as late as early February in some cities including Perth. The event was conceptualised after the Violent Femmes announced a tour of Australia. Promoters Ken West and Vivian Lees sought another act as middle-level support for the band's tour. They succeeded in securing Nirvana to play the Sydney leg at the Hordern Pavilion.
