Hilde Goldschmidt
Hilde Goldschmidt (7 September 1897 – 7 August 1980) was a German expressionist painter and printmaker. Facing persecution under the Nazi regime, she sought refuge in Britain during the Second World War before establishing herself in Austria in the 1950s. Biography Goldschmidt was born in Leipzig into a middle-class Jewish family who had several artistic connections. The family knew the writers Rainer Maria Rilke and Thomas Mann and also the painter Marianne von Werefkin and her partner Alexei Jawlensky. From 1914 to 1917, Goldschmidt studied book design at the Leipzig Academy under Hugo Steiner Prag and produced woodcuts and lithographs in an expressionist style. Pinchas Goldschmidt (born 21 July 1963) is a Swiss-born, internationally known rabbi, scholar, and Jewish community leader. He was the Chief Rabbi of Moscow, Russia from 1993 until 2022, serving at the Moscow Choral Synagogue. He also founded and has headed the Moscow Rabbinical Court of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) since 1989. From 2011, Goldschmidt has served as president of the Conference of European Rabbis (CER), which unites over seven hundred communal rabbis from Dublin, Ireland to Khabarovsk, in the Russian Far East. Paul Edward Goldschmidt (born September 10, 1987) is an American professional baseball first baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals of Major League Baseball (MLB). Lightly recruited out of The Woodlands High School in The Woodlands, Texas, Goldschmidt played for the Texas State Bobcats, and was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB draft. He made his MLB debut with them in 2011, and they traded him to the Cardinals during the 2018–19 offseason. Goldschmidt is a seven-time MLB All-Star. Otto Moritz David Goldschmidt (21 August 1829 – 24 February 1907) was a German composer, conductor and pianist, known for his piano concertos and other piano pieces. He married the "Swedish Nightingale", soprano Jenny Lind. Nicholas Goldschmidt, (December 6, 1908 – February 8, 2004) was a Canadian conducting, conductor, administrator, teacher, performer, music festival entrepreneur and artistic director. He was the grand-nephew of famed composer Adalbert von Goldschmidt (1848-1906). In 1937, Goldschmidt immigrated to the US, where he served as director of opera at the San Francisco Conservatory and Stanford University from 1938 to 1942. He was director of the opera department at Columbia University from 1942 to 1944. He subsequently moved to Toronto, where he served as the first music director of the Royal Conservatory Opera School (University of Toronto Opera Division) from 1946 to 1957. Rabbi Meir ( he, רַבִּי מֵאִיר) was a Jewish sage who lived in the time of the Mishnah. He was considered one of the greatest of the Tannaim of the fourth generation (139-163). He is the third most frequently mentioned sage in the Mishnah. His wife Bruriah is one of the few women cited in the Gemara. Biography He was born in Asia Minor. Levin Goldschmidt (30 May 1829 – 16 July 1897) was a German jurist, judge and academic. He was a Judge at the Reichsoberhandelsgericht and a professor at the University of Berlin. Between 1875 and 1877 he also served as a member of the German Parliament. Life From 1847 to 1851 he pursued his studies at the universities of Berlin, Bonn, and Heidelberg, receiving his doctor's degree in 1851 from the University of Halle.
