Gloucester City Winget Cricket Club
Gloucester City Winget Cricket Club is an amateur cricket team based in Gloucester, England. The club was formed in 2005 after the merger of Gloucester's two premier cricket clubs at the time, Gloucester City Cricket Club and Winget Cricket Club. In 2019 the club changed its name to Gloucester Cricket Club. The club currently plays in the West of England Premier League and home matches are played at the Spa Ground, Gloucester. Gloucester
Gloucester ( ) is a cathedral city and the county town of Gloucestershire in the South West of England. Gloucester lies on the River Severn, between the Cotswolds to the east and the Forest of Dean to the west, east of Monmouth and east of the border with Wales. West Of England Premier League
The West of England Premier League (WEPL) is the top level of competition for recreational club cricket in the West of England and is a designated ECB Premier League. Since its inception in 1999, the most successful club has been Bath, having won the Premier One title on eleven occasions. The only other clubs to have won the title on more than one occasion are Frocester (2007, 2014 and 2015) and Taunton St Andrews (2001 and 2009). Structure The WEPL covers the counties of Bristol, Somerset, Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, and is the top tier of the pyramid structure of leagues in the area. Spa Ground is a cricket ground in Gloucester, Gloucestershire. The first recorded match on the ground was in 1867, when Gloucester played an All-England Eleven. History In 1882, Gloucestershire played Somerset in the grounds first first-class match. Gloucestershire played first-class matches at the ground from 1882 to 1923, playing a total of 56 first-class matches there, the last of which saw them play Leicestershire in the 1923 County Championship. One match of note came in 1907 when Gloucestershire played Northamptonshire. Winning the toss and batting first, Gloucestershire were bowled out for 60 in their first innings. Wagon Works Ground is a cricket ground in Gloucester, Gloucestershire. The ground was owned by the Gloucester Railway Carriage and Wagon Company. History The first recorded match on the ground was in 1923, when Gloucestershire played Lancashire in the grounds first first-class match. Gloucestershire played first-class matches at the ground from 1923 to 1992, playing a total of 155 first-class matches there, the last of which saw them play Somerset in the 1992 County Championship. One innings of note came in 1936, when Wally Hammond made 317 of Gloucestershire's 485 against Nottinghamshire. As well as hosting first-class cricket the ground has also hosted List-A matches. The first List-A match held there came in the 1969 Player's County League when Gloucestershire played Yorkshire.
