Given Katuta Mwelwa (born 6 March 1969 in Chiengi) is a Zambian politician and member of parliament for Chiengi. She was first elected to parliament in 2016. Early life and education Katuta was born in Chiengi (which, at that time, was part of Nchelenge District) on 6 March 1969. She was given a Honorary Doctorate Degree in Public Administration from the London Graduate School of the Commonwealth University in 2022. She is also pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration with Chalimbana University, Zambia. The National Assembly is Zambia's unicameral legislative body. Between 1972 and 1990, Zambia was a one-party state with the United National Independence Party (UNIP) as the sole legal party. The current National Assembly, formed following elections held on 11 August 2016, has a total of 166 members. 156 members are directly elected in single-member constituencies using the simple plurality (or first-past-the-post) system. Chiengi
Chiengi or is a historic colonial boma of the British Empire in central Africa and today is a settlement in the Luapula Province of Zambia, and headquarters of Chiengi District. Nchelenge District
Nchelenge District is a district of Zambia, located in the Luapula Province. The capital lies at Nchelenge. As of the 2000 Zambian Census, the district had a population of 111,119 people. Nchelenge is one of the twelve districts of Luapula Province in Zambia, second largest by population size (only next to the provincial capital, Mansa). Other districts being Mansa, Kawambwa, Milenge, Mwense, Chienge, Chembe, Chipili, Chifunabuli, Mwansabombwe, Lunga and Samfya. The district, located north of Luapula province some 250 km away from Mansa is the most densely populated of all the districts in the province at 45 persons per square kilometer. The district has a total surface area of 4.092square kilometers (60% land, 30% water and 10% swamps). Forum For Democracy And Development
The Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) is a political party in Zambia. History The FDD was founded in 2001 by former members of the Movement for Multi-Party Democracy (MMD), disaffected by Frederick Chiluba's efforts to change the constitution to allow him to stand for a third term. In the 2001 general elections it nominated Christon Tembo as its presidential candidate; Tembo finished third in a field of eleven candidates with 13% of the vote. In the National Assembly elections the party received 16% of the vote, winning 12 seats. Three FDD politicians were later invited by President Levy Mwanawasa to serve in a 'unity cabinet', and they were expelled from the party for accepting the invitation. In 2005 the FDD chose Edith Nawakwi, a former MMD minister, as its president. However, in 2006 the government de-registered the FDD on the grounds that it had failed to submit an annual report. The Patriotic Front (PF) is a social democratic political party in Zambia. The party was formed by Michael Sata as a breakaway party of the Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) in 2001 after the President Frederick Chiluba nominated Levy Mwanawasa as its presidential candidate for 2001 elections. The party's main base of support are usually the youth and poor people in urban centres (although this support wavered starting in 2021), as well as members of the Bemba people in Copperbelt Province and Lusaka Province.
