Giuseppe Isola
Giuseppe (Tommaso Giuseppe) Isola (Genoa, April 7, 1808 – Genoa, July 21, 1893) was an Italian painter. Biography He was the son of Gaetano Isola and Maria Annunziata Rolleri, during his youth he displayed his works in his father's furniture shop. His talent was noticed by marquess Giancarlo Serra, who became his patreon and allowed him to study painting in the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti and afterwards to travel Tuscany, Latium and Lombardy to improve his skills. In Liguria, Giuseppe focused on learning the fresco styles commonly used by artists in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. His artistic debut took place in 1834, when he presented his portrait titled '' La Congiura di Gian Luigi Fieschi in the Accademia Ligustica.'' Palazzo Reale (Genoa)
The Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace) or Palazzo Stefano Balbi is a major palace in Genoa. History Construction of the present structure began in 1618 for the Balbi family. From 1643 to 1655, work renewed under the direction of the architects Pier Francesco Cantone and Michele Moncino. In 1677, the palace was sold to the Durazzo Family, who enlarged the palace under the designs of Carlo Fontana. In 1823, the palace was sold to the Royal House of Savoy. From 1919, the palace has belonged to the state. Decor The palace contains much original furniture and decoration. Frescoes inside include the ''Glory of the Balbi Family'' by Valerio Castello and Andrea Sghizzi, ''Spring changing slowly to Winter'' by Angelo Michele Colonna and Agostino Mitelli, and ''Jove establishes Justice on the Earth'' by Giovanni Battista Carlone. Santo Varni
Santo Varni (1807 in Genoa – 1885) was an Italian sculptor active mainly in Liguria. He began his training at the Accademia Ligustica di Belle Arti, where he was a pupil of Giuseppe Gaggini. He moved to Florence, where he was a pupil of Lorenzo Bartolini . He is represented by more than forty works at the Monumental Cemetery of Staglieno in Genoa. These include the tomb of Bracelli Spinola (1864), the tomb of Andrea Tagliacane (1870), and the tomb of Asarta (1879). He began teaching at the Accademia Liguistica in Genoa in 1838, and when Gaggini left for Turin, Varni filled his post, serving until his death in 1885. Giovanni Dupré
Giovanni Dupré (1 March 1817 – 10 January 1882) was an Italian sculptor, of distant French stock long settled in Tuscany, who developed a reputation second only to that of his contemporary Lorenzo Bartolini. Biography Born in Siena, Dupré began in his father's carving workshop and that of Paolo Sani, where he was occupied with producing fakes of Renaissance sculptures. Accademia Di San Luca
The Accademia di San Luca (the "Academy of Saint Luke") is an Italian academy of artists in Rome. The establishment of the Accademia de i Pittori e Scultori di Roma was approved by papal brief in 1577, and in 1593 Federico Zuccari became its first ''principe'' or director; the statutes were ratified in 1607. Other founders included Girolamo Muziano and Pietro Olivieri. The Academy was named for Luke the Evangelist, the patron saint of painters.
