In biology, a species is the basic unit of classification and a taxonomic rank of an organism, as well as a unit of biodiversity. ''Gibasis'' is a genus of flowering plants within the Commelinaceae family, first described in 1837. It is native to the Western Hemisphere from Texas and the West Indies south to Argentina, with most of the species native to Mexico. Genus ( plural genera ) is a taxonomic rank used in the biological classification of extant taxon, living and fossil organisms as well as Virus classification#ICTV classification, viruses. Flora is all the plant life present in a particular region or time, generally the naturally occurring (indigenous) native plants.
