Giani Harpreet Singh
Harpreet Singh (born 1972) is a Sikh preacher who is the current Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee appointed acting jathedar of the Akal Takht since 2018. He has also been serving as the jathedar of Damdama Sahib since 2017. Early life and education Harpreet Singh was born in Giddarbaha, Punjab, to Ranjit Singh, a granthi of a rural gurdwara and Harbhajan Kaur in May 1972. He joined Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee as a preacher in 1997 and two year later he was assigned as the head granthi of Gurdwara Darbar Sahib in Muktsar. Singh studied in a government school till class 12 before attending Guru Kashi Gurmat Institute in Talwandi Sabo. After finishing a one year diploma in divinity, he completed a master's degree in comparative religious studies from the Punjabi University in Patiala. Five Banis
The initiated Sikh is asked by the Panj Piare during the Amrit Sanchar ceremony to recite the following five banis (Gurmukhi: ਪੰਜ ਬਾਣੀਆਂ ''paja bāṇī'āṁ)'' as a commitment to the Sikh Gurus and Waheguru. The ''banis'' are also recited daily, starting in the early morning (Amrit Vela). Through time, the "five banis" has come to mean different things to different groups of Sikhs. Takht Sri Patna Sahib
Takhat Sri Patna Sahib also known as Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib, is a one of the five Takhats of the Sikhs, located in Patna, Bihar, India. The construction of the Takhat was commissioned by Maharaja Ranjit Singh in the 18th century to mark the birthplace of Guru Gobind Singh. Due to the damages caused by an earthquake in 1934, the building was rebuilt between 1948 and 1957 for ₹20,00,000. The current acting jathedar of Takhat Sri Harimandir Ji, Patna Sahib is Baldev Singh, who was appointed by Harpreet Singh, the acting jathedar of the Akal Takht on 2 December 2022. Gobind Singh Longowal was elected as President of SGPC on November 29. Gobind Singh Longowal was born in year 1959 in Longowal District Sangrur. Gurmata
A Gurmata ( Punjabi: ਗੁਰਮਤਾ, literally, 'Guru's intention' or 'advice of the Guru'), alternatively romanized as Gurumatta, is an order upon a subject that affects the fundamental principles of Sikh religion and is binding upon all Sikhs. Gurmata is similar to Fatwa in the Muslim tradition with a difference that Fatwa is not binding on all Muslims while Gurmata is binding on all Khalsa, however it is not binding on non-Khalsa Sikhs. Sarbat Khalsa
Sarbat Khalsa (lit. meaning ''all the Khalsa''; Punjabi: (Gurumukhi)), was a biannual deliberative assembly (on the same lines as a Parliament in a Direct Democracy) of the Sikhs held at Amritsar in Panjab during the 18th century. It literally translates to the "entire Sikh Nation" but as a political institution it refers to the meetings of the Dal Khalsa, Sikh Misls, and the legislature of the Sikh Empire. The first Sarbat Khalsa was called by the tenth guru, Guru Gobind Singh before his death in 1708 and the tradition of calling Sarbat Khalsa has continued ever since at times of hardship or conflict. After the demolition of the Mahant System by the Khalsa Panth, S. Kartar Singh Jhabbar called the Sarbat Khalsa in 1920. He was not the Jathedar of the Akal Takht but a Sikh leader. Guru Granth Sahib
The Guru Granth Sahib ( pa, ਗੁਰੂ ਗ੍ਰੰਥ ਸਾਹਿਬ, ) is the central holy religious scripture of Sikhism, regarded by Sikhs as the final, sovereign and Guru Maneyo Granth, eternal Guru following the lineage of the Sikh gurus, ten human gurus of the religion.
