Gobind Singh Longowal
Gobind Singh Longowal was elected as President of SGPC on November 29. Gobind Singh Longowal was born in year 1959 in Longowal District Sangrur. He worked as assistant with Harchand Singh Longowal from the age of seven years. In the year 1985 he was elected as MLA from halka Dhanaula. In 1986 he became Chairman of Markfed. In the year 1997 he was again elected as MLA from halka Dhanaula and became minister in the Punjab government. He was again elected as MLA from Dhanaula in the year 2002. He was also appointed Chairman District Planning Board, Sangrur and now serving the people of Dhuri Dhuri is a city in Sangrur District in the state of Punjab, India. The Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee ( SGPC; "Supreme Gurdwara Management Committee") is an organization in India responsible for the management of Gurdwaras, Sikh places of worship in states of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh and the union territory of Chandigarh. SGPC also administers Darbar Sahib in Amritsar. The SGPC is governed by the president of SGPC. Longowal
Longowal is a town with municipal council in Sangrur district in the Indian state of Punjab. Longowal is unique in the history of East Punjab. Overview Longowal village was first brought into existence by Baba Alla ji Singh, in whose name a very old Gurudwara is still running in its original place, now almost at the centre of the village. This village has been the largest populated village within Punjab for half a century and has been run by a municipality since the 1950s. There used to be a Granthi named Harchand Singh from a neighbouring village who used to organise Kirtans in the area. He became very popular by the name Sant Harchand Singh Longowal because he moved to Longowal in early 1940s and became president ("Pardhan") of most of the Gurudwars of Longowal. Harchand Singh Longowal
Sant Harchand Singh Longowal (2 January 1932 – 20 August 1985) was the President of the Akali Dal during the Punjab insurgency of the 1980s. He had signed the Punjab accord, also known as the Rajiv-Longowal Accord along with Rajiv Gandhi on 24 July 1985. The government accepted most of the demands of Akali Dal who in turn agreed to withdraw their agitation. Less than a month after signing the Punjab accord, Sant Longowal was assassinated by Gyan Singh Leel and Jarnail Singh Halvara. Early years Sant Harchand Singh Longowal was born on 2 January 1932, in a family of modest means living in Gidariani, a village then in the princely state of Patiala, but now a part of Sangrur district of Punjab (India). Under the tutelage of Sant Jodh Singh at the seminary in nearby Maujo, he studied Sikh theology and Sikh texts and practised Sikh music. Dhanaula
Dhanaula is a city and a municipal council in Barnala district in the state of Punjab, India. Situated 18 km west of Sangrur, Ranjit kaur Sodhi w/o Harwinder singh Sodhi is president of nagar council Dhanaula lies on the Sangrur-Barnala road. It is about 12 km from Barnala. Dhanaula was founded by Gurditta, eldest son of Taloka, in 1718 (1775 Bikrami). It was the capital of the erstwhile Princely State of Nabha until 1755 when Raja Hamir Singh founded Nabha town and made it the capital of the state.
