Giacomo Bargone was an Italian painter of the Baroque period, born and active in Genoa. He trained with Andrea and Ottavio Semini. He excited the jealousy of a contemporary artist, Lazzaro Calvi Lazzaro Calvi (1512–1587) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance period. Baroque
The Baroque (, ; ) is a style of architecture, music, dance, painting, sculpture, poetry, and other arts that flourished in Europe from the early 17th century until the 1750s. In the territories of the Spanish and Portuguese empires including the Iberian Peninsula it continued, together with new styles, until the first decade of the 19th century. Andrea Semini (or Semino) (1525-1594) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance, active mainly in his native Genoa. He was born in Genoa, son and pupil of the painter Antonio Semini. Ottavio Semini
Ottavio Semini (c. 1530–1604) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance. He was born and trained in Genoa and died in Milan. He was the son and pupil of Antonio Semini, and was influenced by Perino del Vaga. Aided his brother Andrea in many works, but was obliged to leave Genoa on account of a homicide and rape, and afterwards led a dissipated life in Milan. He helped paint for the chapel of San Girolamo in St. Angelo in Milan. With his brother, Andrea Semini, he frescoed some salons the Palazzo Marino in Milan. He may have committed suicide. Among his pupils were Paolo Camillo Landriani and Niccolosio Granielli. Lazzaro Calvi
Lazzaro Calvi (1512–1587) was an Italian painter of the late-Renaissance period. He was born in Genoa and trained with his father Agostino Calvi and Perin del Vaga. Older sources claim he lived till the improbable age of 105 years His elder brother Pantaleone (died 1595) was also a painter. They worked together at Genoa and the different cities of the republic, as well as at Monaco and Naples. Pantaleono acting as the decorator for Luzzato's works. They painted a façade of the Palazzo Doria (now Palazzo Spinola). They painted a ''Continence of Scipio'' for a palace in Genoa. Lazzaro, irritated by the success of some of his contemporaries, prompted him to the commission the poisoning of Giacomo Bargone; and he hired persons to vilify the works of the ablest painters of the time, and to extol his own.
