Gerulfus Kherubim Pareira
Gerulfus Kherubim Pareira S.D.V. (born 26 September 1941) is an Indonesian Roman Catholic bishop. Biography On 15 August 1970 Pareira was accepted as a member of the society of the divine word. The following week on 22 August 1970 he was ordained a priest. On 21 December 1985 it was announced that Pareira had been chosen as the new bishop of the Diocese of Weetebula. He was ordained bishop on 25 April 1986, by Gregorius Manteiro, then bishop of Rueteng, and co-consecrated by Anton Pain Ratu, then bishop of Atambua, and Eduardus Sangsun, then bishop of Ruteng. On 19 January 2008 Pareira was installed as the new bishop of the Diocese of Maumere. In 2011 Pareira celebrated his 50 monastic life, 40 years as a priest and 25 years as a bishop. On 26 September 2016, the Vatican accepted Pareira's letter of resignation, which he had submitted as all bishops are required to do once they turn 75. Roman Catholic Diocese Of Maumere
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Maumere (''Dioecesis Maumerensis'') in Indonesia was created on December 14, 2005, by splitting it from the Archdiocese of Ende, which is still the metropolitan of the diocese. Its first bishop is Vincentius Sensi. The St Joseph church in Maumere is the cathedral of the diocese. The diocese covers an area of 1,732 km², coinciding with the civil district Sikka on the eastern part of the island Flores. As of 2005, 259,598 of the 270,000 people in the area are members of the Catholic Church. The diocese is subdivided into 35 parishes. Atambua
Atambua is the regency seat of Belu Regency, East Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. The town stretches as far as 8.5 km from north to south and 5 km from east to west, and is located in the north of the western half of Timor Island. The town is located at an altitude of about 350 m above sea level with temperatures ranging between 23 and 35 degrees Celsius making this area feel quite warm. An influx of citizens fleeing from East Timor in 1999 made Atambua a big town. It is now the second-largest town in West Timor behind Kupang, also the fourth-largest town in East Nusa Tenggara behind Kupang, Maumere and Ende. Most of its citizens speak Tetun and Dawan. Maumere
Maumere is the administrative seat of the Sikka Regency and the second-largest town (after Ende) on Flores Island, Indonesia. It lies on the north coast of the island and the port is in the north-west part of the town. Ruteng
Ruteng is a small town in the highlands towards the western end of Flores Island, Indonesia. It is the administrative capital of Manggarai Regency, serviced by the Frans Sales Lega Airport or Ruteng Airport. The population is predominantly Roman Catholic, but still preserve the ancient Manggarai custom of ''caci'' (whip fighting), which is usually practiced at weddings, and serves as a tourist attraction. Eduardus Sangsun
Eduardus Sangsun (June 14, 1943 – October 13, 2008) was the Indonesian third bishop of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Ruteng from 1984 until his death in 2008. The Diocese of Ruteng is based in the city of Ruteng on the western part of Flores island. Biography Sangsun was born in Karot, Manggarai district, Flores, in the present-day nation of Indonesia on June 14, 1943. He was ordained a Roman Catholic priest on July 12, 1972. Pope John Paul II appointed Sangsun as only the third bishop of Ruteng in 1984. Sangsun was formally ordained to bishop on March 25, 1985. He would remain bishop for over two decades. Sangsun learned he had heart disease in April 2008 when he travelled to Singapore for a medical checkup. He flew to Rome and the Vatican in September 2008 to take part in the vow-taking ceremony of Dominican nuns. He was hospitalized while in Rome.
