Geraldton Buccaneers
The Geraldton Buccaneers, also known as the Buccs, are an Australian basketball team based in Geraldton, Western Australia. The Buccaneers compete in the Men's NBL1 West and play their home games at Activewest Stadium. The team is affiliated with Geraldton Amateur Basketball Association (GABA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. Team history Establishment In the 1980s, the highest level of basketball in the state of Western Australia was played in the Perth-based District Competition. In an effort to expand the league, the Western Australian Basketball Federation began approaching various business people in the country areas to gauge their interest in a statewide basketball competition. NBL1 West
NBL1 West, formerly the State Basketball League (SBL), is a semi-professional basketball league in Western Australia, comprising both a men's and women's competition. In 2020, Basketball Western Australia partnered with the National Basketball League (NBL) to bring NBL1 to Western Australia. NBL1 replaced the former SBL to create more professional pathways and opportunities for males and females playing basketball in Western Australia. As a result, the SBL became the west conference of NBL1. History The State Basketball League originated in 1972 as the District Competition. The 2015 MSBL season was the 27th season of the Men's State Basketball League (SBL). The regular season began on Friday 13 March, with Perry Lakes and Kalamunda hosting East Perth and Mandurah respectively. The regular season began on Friday 15 March, with round 1 seeing a 2018 grand final rematch between the Perry Lakes Hawks and Joondalup Wolves. Rockingham Flames
Rockingham Flames is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of the Rockingham Basketball and Recreation Association (RBRA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the region. The Flames play their home games at Mike Barnett Sports Complex. Club history In the early 1970s, Rockingham and Districts Basketball Association was established. The Rockingham Flames made their debut in the State Basketball League (SBL) in 1992 in the form of a women's team, becoming the first club to introduce a women's program before a men's program. Earnest Ross
Earnest Lee Ross Jr. (born January 27, 1991) is an American professional basketball player who last played for Toyoda Gosei Scorpions of the Japanese B.League. Born in the U.S. territory of Guam, he represented the Guam national team for the first time in 2018. He played college basketball for Auburn and Missouri before beginning his professional career in Australia in 2014. He played half a season with the Perth Wildcats before an Achilles injury ended his rookie year. He continued on in Australia in 2016 with the Ballarat Miners. Joondalup Wolves is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. The club is a division of Wanneroo Basketball Association (WBA), the major administrative basketball organisation in the Joondalup/Wanneroo region. The Wolves play their home games at HBF Arena. James Paringatai
James Paringatai (born 7 January 1986) is a New Zealand basketball player who last played for the Toowoomba Mountaineers of the Queensland State League (QSL). He played 13 seasons in the National Basketball League (NBL), with his most notable stint coming with the Southland Sharks between 2010 and 2016. He captained the Sharks to NBL championships in 2013 and 2015. In June 2016, he moved to Australia to play in the State Basketball League (SBL). He was a member of the Geraldton Buccaneers' 2019 SBL championship-winning team. Dwayne Benjamin (born June 7, 1993) is an American professional basketball player for Ostioneros de Guaymas of the CIBACOPA. He played two seasons of college basketball for Oregon before beginning his professional career in Denmark in 2016. High school career Benjamin attended Northside High School in Lafayette, Louisiana, where he played basketball, football and track and field. Cockburn Cougars is an NBL1 West club based in Perth, Western Australia. The club fields a team in both the Men's and Women's NBL1 West. Maurice Barrow
Maurice Barrow (born January 15, 1992) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Fairfield University before playing professionally in Austria and Australia. High school career Barrow attended Christ the King Regional High School in Queens, New York. As a junior in 2008–09, he led Christ the King to the CHSAA Class AA intersectional championship by tallying a double double in the decisive game.
