George Walker Wesley Dawson
George Walker Wesley Dawson (February 14, 1858 – July 2, 1936) was an Irish-born merchant and political figure in Ontario, Canada. He represented Addington in the House of Commons of Canada from 1891 to 1896 as a Liberal member. He was born in Sligo, the son of the Reverend Abraham Dawson, and came to Canada West with his family in 1864. He was educated in Kingston and Belleville. Dawson owned a mill. He was a Crown Land agent, reeve for Clarendon Township and also served as postmaster. In 1881, he married Amy Elizabeth Orford. Dawson was defeated when he ran for re-election to the House of Commons in 1896. He later served as inspector of penitentiaries and purchasing agent for the Department of Public Works. The Province of Canada (or the United Province of Canada or the United Canadas) was a British colony in North America from 1841 to 1867. Abraham Dawson was an Irish-Canadian Anglican cleric. He was also a very prominent member of the Orange Order in Canada The Grand Orange Lodge of British America, more commonly known as the Grand Orange Lodge of Canada or simply Orange Order in Canada, is the Canadian branch of the Orange Order, a Protestant fraternal organization that began in County Armagh in Ire ... and member of a Canadian political family. He was born in Killyman, County Tyrone, on 29 July 1816. As a Christian preacher, he was based in a variety of locations throughout Ireland, including Knockmanaul, Turin, Athlone, Manorhamilton, Sligo, Strabane and Newtownstewart, before immigrating to Canada West in 1864.
