George Montgomery (drag Racer)
George Montgomery (January 27, 1933 – August 24, 2023), nicknamed ''Ohio George'', was an American gasser drag racer. Montgomery began drag racing as a teen, learning mechanical skills at the AC Delco plant in Dayton, Ohio, he would later use to build the supercharger on his Cadillac; he would mate a Cragar 4-71 manifold to a GMC 6-71 blower, and hand-fabricated the drive pulleys. In 1950, he opened George's Speed Shop, which would ultimately earn the distinction of being the oldest continuously-operated speed shop in the U.S. He got the nickname "Ohio George" from Tim Woods, owner of the Stone-Woods-Cook Willys gasser, at the 1963 Nationals in Indianapolis. Montgomery won an NHRA national title in a gas class seven times, once in A/G, four in A/GS, and twice in AA/G (supercharged). Gasser (car)
A gasser is a type of hot rod car originally used for drag racing. This style of custom car build originated in United States in the late 1950s and continued until the early 1970s. In the days before Pro Stock, the A/Gas cars were the fastest stock-appearing racers around. History Gassers are based on closed body production models from the 1930s to mid-1960s, which have been stripped of extraneous weight and jacked up using a beam axle or tubular axle to provide better weight distribution on acceleration (beam axles are also lighter than an independent front suspension), though a raised stock front suspension is common as well. Common weight reduction techniques include fiberglass body panels, stripped interiors, and Lexan windows (sometimes color tinted). In an internal combustion engine, a turbocharger (often called a turbo) is a forced induction device that is powered by the flow of exhaust gases. It uses this energy to compress the intake gas, forcing more air into the engine in order to produce more power for a given displacement. Ford 385 Engine
The Ford 385 engine family (also code-named "Lima") is a series of big block V8 engines designed by Ford Motor Company. Produced from 1968 to 1998, the Lima engines replaced the MEL engine entirely, along with multiple engines of the medium-block FE engine family; in truck applications, the engines succeeded the much larger Super Duty family. The Lima engines were used across multiple applications in North America. In cars, the engines saw use by all three Ford divisions in full-size cars, intermediates, personal luxury cars, and muscle cars. In trucks, the engine family was used in full-size trucks and vans, along with medium and heavy-duty trucks.
