George Baker (Indian Actor)
George Baker (born 28 October 1946) is an Anglo-Indian actor and politician. He is primarily known for his works in Bengali and Assamese language films. He is one of the two Members of Parliament appointed by the president under Article 331 (Anglo-Indian) of the Indian Constitution. He joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2014 and contested and lost the Lok Sabha elections from the Howrah constituency during the 2014 Indian general election. Biography Early life and education George Baker was born in a Greek family. His parents migrated to India via Britain shortly before he was born. His initial education was in Lucknow at La Martiniere College. He was a National level junior in Boxing and Swimming during this period. 2014 Indian General Election
General elections were held in India in nine phases from 7 April to 12 May 2014 to elect the members of the 16th Lok Sabha. With 834 million registered voters, they were the largest-ever elections in the world until being surpassed by the 2019 elections. Around 23.1 million or 2.7% of the total eligible voters were aged 18–19 years. A total of 8,251 candidates contested the 543 elected Lok Sabha seats. The average election turnout over all nine phases was around 66.40%, the highest ever in the history of Indian general elections. The results were declared on 16 May, 15 days before the 15th Lok Sabha completed its constitutional mandate on 31 May 2014. The counting exercise was held at 989 counting centres. ''Chameli Memsaab'' (English: Madame Chameli) is a 1975 Indian Assamese romantic drama film directed by Abdul Majid. Assamese cinema, also known as Jollywood, is an Indian film industry of Assamese-language motion pictures. It is based in Assam, India. The industry was born in 1935 when Jyoti Prasad Agarwala released his movie '' Joymoti''. Since then the Assamese cinema has developed a slow-paced, sensitive style, especially with the movies of Bhabendra Nath Saikia and Jahnu Barua. The industry is called Jollywood, named for Agarwala's Jyoti Chitraban Film Studio. Despite its long history and its artistic successes, for a state that has always taken its cinema seriously, Assamese cinema has never really managed to break through on the national scene despite its film industry making a mark in the National Awards over the years.
