Geelong West Roosters
The Geelong West St Peters Football Club was an Australian rules football club that last competed in the Geelong Football League (GFL) from 1989 until the end of the 2016 season. Prior to its merger with St Peters Football Club in 1989, the club played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1963 until 1988. Geelong West, nicknamed the 'Roosters', wore white and red during its time in the Association. At the conclusion of the 2016 season, the Roosters merged with co-tenants Geelong West Sports Club to form a new entity, Geelong West Giants. History Formed in 1878, Geelong West began in the Geelong & District Football Association. Geelong Football League
The Geelong Football Netball League is an Australian rules football and netball league in Victoria, Australia. It is widely regarded as the highest standard Australian rules football league in regional Victoria, with several former AFL players now playing for a variety of clubs. History The league was formed in 1979 when twelve clubs broke away from the Geelong & District Football League. The city and country clubs of the old GDFL were divided into the major league competition of the GFL and the minor league of the GDFL. Many of the teams in the lower league wanted a system of promotion and relegation, which was fought by the GFL until the early 1980s when the Victorian Country Football League held a hearing in Melbourne. As a result, a trial promotion-relegation system was put into place on a voluntary basis. Norm Glenister
Norman Mick Glenister (23 August 1915 – 17 November 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the VFL during the 1930s and 1940s. Whether playing as a half forward flanker, centreman or rover, Glenister was a consistent goalkicker for Geelong and bar his debut year when he played just two games never failed to kick 20 goals in a season. He missed Geelong's 1937 premiership due to injury and topped their goalkicking in 1939 with 36 goals. His best season tally however was 50 goals which he kicked in 1938. Archie Sykes
Archibald J. Sykes (24 September 1866 – 26 August 1957) was an Australian rules footballer who played for the Essendon Football Club in the Victorian Football League (VFL), and was involved in the club's 1897 premiership win. Sykes played for Essendon for seven years in the then VFA in 1889–1890 and 1892–1896, and in 1891, he played for Fremantle in Western Australia. Sykes was involved in three Essendon VFA premierships in 1892–1894. After Essendon joined the new Victorian Football League, Sykes played with the Bombers for one season (1897) where they won the premiership, the fourth of his career, before retiring at the end of 1897. Les Roebuck
Leslie Norman "Les" Roebuck (10 November 1885 – 18 May 1973) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). He was also a leading tennis player. VFL Roebuck is on record as weighing only 57 kg, during his football career at Geelong, where he played for four seasons. Recruited from Geelong West, Roebuck was Geelong's leading goalkicker in the 1906 VFL season, with 21 goals. His best goal tally in a game was five, which he got against Melbourne at Corio Oval in 1907. Charlie Ricketts
Charles Henry Thomas Ricketts (3 July 1885 – 7 March 1960) was an Australian rules footballer and coach in the Victorian Football League. Ricketts was a champion rover for the Richmond Football Club in the Victorian Football Association from 1903 to 1905. He represented the VFA twice in 1905 and kicked two goals in the Richmond premiership side. The next season, he crossed to the South Melbourne Football Club in the Victorian Football League. He was considered a highly skilled player noted for his accuracy, particularly with his stab-kick passes. By 1908 he had earned a reputation as one of the premier players in the VFL and the following season he led South Melbourne to their first League premiership as captain-coach. Peter Riccardi
Peter Riccardi (born 17 December 1972) is a former Australian rules footballer for the Geelong Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). Career Early career Of Italian and Argentine descent, Riccardi made his debut for Geelong in Round 4, 1992 against West Coast, a real foe of Riccardi's, who he faced in the losing Grand Finals of 1992 and 1994. Riccardi's raking left foot helped him win the 1998 Carji Greeves Medal. He famously won a game against Carlton with a 50m goal after the siren. Riccardi had played 282 games at the end of the 2005 season and struggled to return to the side in 2006, playing just 3 games in the first part of the year. Ernest "Bung" Newling (26 June 1876 – 30 November 1944) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL).
