Ernest Newling
Ernest "Bung" Newling (26 June 1876 – 30 November 1944) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Geelong in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Newling, who was blind in one eye, played as a defender and follower. He arrived to the club from Geelong West. He was just the third Geelong player to appear in 150 league games, after Teddy Rankin and Henry Young Sir Henry Edward Fox Young, KCMG (23 April 1803 – 18 September 1870) was the fifth Governor of South Australia, serving in that role from 2 August 1848 until 20 December 1854. He was then the first Governor of Tasmania, from 1855 until 1861. .... Newtown is an inner western suburb of Geelong, Victoria, Australia. At the , Newtown had a population of 10,155. It is a primarily residential area occupying one of the highest points of urban Geelong, has always been a desirable place of residence and it is the location of many of Geelong's oldest and most valuable properties. Geelong West Football Club
The Geelong West St Peters Football Club was an Australian rules football club that last competed in the Geelong Football League (GFL) from 1989 until the end of the 2016 season. Prior to its merger with St Peters Football Club in 1989, the club played in the Victorian Football Association (VFA) from 1963 until 1988. Geelong West, nicknamed the 'Roosters', wore white and red during its time in the Association. At the conclusion of the 2016 season, the Roosters merged with co-tenants Geelong West Sports Club to form a new entity, Geelong West Giants. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Australian Football League
The Australian Football League (AFL) is the only fully professional competition of Australian rules football. Through the AFL Commission, the AFL also serves as the sport's governing body and is responsible for controlling the laws of the game. Originally known as the Victorian Football League (VFL), it was founded in 1896 as a breakaway competition from the Victorian Football Association (VFA), with its inaugural season commencing the following year. Teddy Rankin
Edwin Walter "Teddy" Rankin (11 March 1872 – 31 July 1944) was an Australian rules footballer, originally with Riversdale, who began playing with Geelong in the VFA in 1891, and later played in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Family The son of Walter Rankin (1849–1930), and Sarah Rankin, née Austin, Edwin Walter Rankin was born in Geelong, Victoria on 11 March 1872. Brothers Two of his brothers played for Geelong Football Club: Tom Rankin (1881–1958), 47 games (1904–1906), and Samuel John Rankin (1872–1958) (who was never selected in the VFL team's First XVIII). Spouses Rankin married Louisa Jane Johns in 1892, which lasted until her death in 1906. He married Adelaide Isabel Hyde (1885–1971) in 1909. Henry Young (footballer)
Henry "Tracker" Young (16 May 1873 – 9 January 1923) was an Australian rules footballer in the Victorian Football League (VFL). A successful participant in numerous sports he was master of them all. He commanded respect whether it was on the football field, the boxing ring, riding in the Melbourne to Warrnambool road race, or rowing on Corio Bay. Tracker's fitness was that impressive that it is well known that he ran 30 plus kilometres along the beach to the game, play four quarters in the ruck and then ran 30 kilometres back home. Family The son of Samuel Young (1840–1923), and Margaret Young (–1926), née Calhoun, Henry Young was born in Geelong on 16 May 1873. He married Ruby May Gaylard (1886–1940) in 1920. Ruby remarried in 1923. Both she and her second husband, Leslie Alexander Eastgate, died as the result of an accident on 20 December 1940.
