Gedsted
Gedsted is a small town in Himmerland with a population of 857 (1 January 2023), located in Gedsted parish. The town belongs to the municipality of Vesthimmerland Municipality and is located in the North Denmark Region. The town is located on a hillside near Louns Bredning around 10 km south of Farsø. Gedsted's annual town party is organized by the Cooperative Associations and is called "Gedeskæg". The town also have a school Gedsted school. History Gedsted has played a role as a traffic hub from the Viking Age. Probably there has been a bridge over Lerkenfeld stream already from the year 1000-1100. It is said that Canute IV of Denmark also known as Canute the holy, in about 1080, tried to gather a viking army to regain England, and to raise money, he raised the kingdom and collected taxes from the peasants. Vesthimmerland Municipality
Vesthimmerland Municipality or Vesthimmerlandøs Municipality is a municipality ( da, kommune) in the North Jutland Region in Denmark. It covers an area of 768,08 km² (2013) and has a total population of 38,277 inhabitants (2008). The Municipality borders Jammerbugt Municipality to the south and to the east it borders Rebild and Aalborg Municipality and to the south it borders Viborg Municipality and to the south-east it borders Mariagerfjord Municipality. On 1 January 2007 Vesthimmerland municipality was created as the result of ''Kommunalreformen'' ("The Municipal Reform" of 2007), consisting of the former municipalities of Aalestrup, Farsø, Løgstør, and Aars. Farsø
Farsø is a town with a population of 3,349 (1 January 2022) in Region Nordjylland in Denmark in the Vesthimmerland Municipality. Farsø was the birthplace of Johannes Vilhelm Jensen, winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1944. The village of Vognsild is located to the west of Farsø. Farsø is also called one of the head cities of Vesthimmerland Municipality along with Aars, Løgstør and Aalestrup. History In 1975, the city was described as follows: "Farsø with church, rectory, School, Pharmacist's retail store, District housing, Veirmølle". The town of Farsø got a savings bank in 1877. The inn came in 1883, but until 1912, it was only for road users. Aggersund
Aggersund is a village in northern Denmark with a population of 290 (2022). The village is a part of Vesthimmerland Municipality in the North Jutland Region. Evidence of settlement in Aggersund dates back to the stone age, and the village contains one of the oldest viking fortresses in Denmark, Aggersborg. Much of the village's modern growth is associated with the commerce brought by the village's bridge. The Aggersund bridge ( da, Aggersundbroen) was once one of few crossings on the Limfjord. Because of the bridge's regional importance, it was a location of interest during the German occupation of Denmark and had a heavy occupying military presence during WWII. Saint Ursula (Latin for 'little female bear', german: link=no, Heilige Ursula) is a legendary Romano-British Christian saint who died on 21 October 383. Her feast day in the pre-1970 General Roman Calendar is 21 October. There is little information about her and the anonymous group of holy virgins who accompanied and, on an uncertain date, were killed along with her at Cologne. Aalestrup is a town in Vesthimmerland Municipality with a population of 2,780 (1 January 2022) in Region Nordjylland in Denmark. Facilities Aalestrup School has 294 students, divided into 0.-6. Margaret I ( da, Margrete Valdemarsdatter; March 1353 – 28 October 1412) was ruler of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden (which included Finland) from the late 1380s until her death, and the founder of the Kalmar Union that joined the Scandinavian kingdoms together for over a century.
