Gedsted Kirke
Gedsted is a small town in Himmerland with a population of 857 (1 January 2023), located in Gedsted parish. The town belongs to the municipality of Vesthimmerland Municipality and is located in the North Denmark Region. The town is located on a hillside near Louns Bredning around 10 km south of Farsø. Gedsted's annual town party is organized by the Cooperative Associations and is called "Gedeskæg". The town also have a school Gedsted school. History Gedsted has played a role as a traffic hub from the Viking Age. Probably there has been a bridge over Lerkenfeld stream already from the year 1000-1100. It is said that Canute IV of Denmark also known as Canute the holy, in about 1080, tried to gather a viking army to regain England, and to raise money, he raised the kingdom and collected taxes from the peasants. Aggersborg
Aggersborg is the largest of Denmark's former Viking ring fortress, and one of the largest archaeological sites in Denmark. It is located near Aggersund on the north side of the Limfjord. It consists of a circular rampart surrounded by a ditch. Four main roads arranged in a cross connects the fortress center with the rampart's outer ring. The roads were tunneled under the outer rampart, leaving the circular structure intact. The location was originally the site of an Iron Age village which was removed during the 10th century to allow for the construction of the ring fortress. The fortress itself was likely constructed c. 980, and was later abandoned. Although the exact purpose of the fortress is unknown, the location is of significant strategic importance, as it overlooks a narrow strait of the Limfjord. Saint Ursula
Saint Ursula (Latin for 'little female bear', german: link=no, Heilige Ursula) is a legendary Romano-British Christian saint who died on 21 October 383. Her feast day in the pre-1970 General Roman Calendar is 21 October. There is little information about her and the anonymous group of holy virgins who accompanied and, on an uncertain date, were killed along with her at Cologne. They remain in the Roman Martyrology, although their commemoration does not appear in the simplified Calendarium Romanum Generale (General Roman Calendar) of the 1970 Missale Romanum. The earliest evidence of a cult of martyred virgins at Cologne is an inscription from c. 400 in the Church of St. Ursula, located on Ursulaplatz in Cologne which states that the ancient basilica had been restored on the site where some holy virgins were killed. Margaret I ( da, Margrete Valdemarsdatter; March 1353 – 28 October 1412) was ruler of Denmark, Norway, and Sweden (which included Finland) from the late 1380s until her death, and the founder of the Kalmar Union that joined the Scandinavian kingdoms together for over a century. Eric VI Menved (1274 – 13 November 1319) was King of Denmark (1286–1319). A son of King Eric V and Agnes of Brandenburg, he became king in 1286 at age 12, when his father was murdered on 22 November by unknown assailants. On account of his age, his mother ruled for him until 1294. Regency Eric Menved's rule was a central period during the “Age of Decay" in Denmark 1241–1340. His early reign – during which he was led by his mother and her German relatives – was affected by the unrest and wars that followed the murder of his father. The first act of the new government was to settle the case of the former king's murder at a court convened at Nyborg at Whitsun 1287. 27 honorable men were appointed to decide the case.
