Gastón Guzmán (singer-songwriter)
Gastón Guzmán Muñoz (c. 1937 - August 28, 2019) was a Chilean singer-songwriter. A native of Angol, Chile, he was a founder, with his brother Eduardo (1940-2012), of the Chilean musical group, Quelentaro. Quelentaro recorded approximately 20 albums, telling stories, usually in the first person perspective, about the lives of workers, peasants, students, women, and settlers. In 2015, he was honored with the designation as a fundamental figure of Chilean music. Angol
Angol is a commune and capital city of the Malleco Province in the Araucanía Region of southern Chile. It is located at the foot of the Nahuelbuta Range and next to the Vergara River, that permitted communications by small boats to the Bío-Bío River and Concepción. This strategic position explains the successive foundations of this city during the Arauco War. It was first founded in 1553 as a "conquistador" fort of ''Confines'', the fort was later destroyed and rebuilt several times and it was not until the Pacification of Araucania in the late 19th century that it was rebuilt with the name of Angol. The city has a current population of approximately 53,000. Within the electoral divisions of Chile, it belongs to the 48th electoral district and the 14th senatorial circumscription. Quelentaro, previously Conjunto Quelentaro, was a Chilean folk music group founded in 1960 by brothers Eduardo and Gastón Guzmán. Original members also included José Leppe, Valericio Leppe, Eladio López and Arinaldo Álvarez. ''Carpa de La Reina'' ("tent of the queen") is a collective album released on the EMI Odeón label (LDC-36581) in the middle of 1966. The collective is led by Violeta Parra with other artists invited to her popular art center in the La Reina commune in northwest Santiago. The other artists featured on the album are her brothers Lautaro and Roberto Parra Roberto Parra Mateo (born 6 April 1976 in Socuéllamos, Ciudad Real) is a Spanish middle distance runner. Violeta Parra
Violeta del Carmen Parra Sandoval (; 4 October 1917 – 5 February 1967) was a Chilean composer, singer-songwriter, folklorist, ethnomusicologist and visual artist. She pioneered the Nueva Canción Chilena (The Chilean New Song), a renewal and a reinvention of Chilean folk music that would extend its sphere of influence outside Chile. Her birthdate (4 October) was chosen "Chilean Musicians' Day". In 2011, Andrés Wood directed a biopic about her, titled ''Violeta Went to Heaven'' (Spanish: ''Violeta se fue a los cielos'').
