Gastown Grand Prix
The Global Relay Gastown Grand Prix is a criterium cycling race held in Gastown, the oldest neighbourhood in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The race is part of BC Superweek, a series of nine races held over 10 days in July in the greater Vancouver area. Founded by a local dentist and bike racer, Roger Sumner, in 1973, the Gastown Grand Prix regularly attracted professional riders from across the continent along with crowds of 20,000 to 30,000 spectators. Following an eight-year hiatus from 1994 to 2001, the race returned in 2002 as the Tour de Gastown, running until 2008 before once again stopping due to lack of sponsorship. On January 27, 2012, Global Relay, a Gastown-based technology services firm announced that it would be Title Sponsor and Operator of the race for five years through 2016. Kirk O'Bee
Kirk O'Bee (born April 9, 1977, in Ada, Michigan) is a former professional road racing cyclist from the United States. He won two national championships – in 1997 the USPRO pursuit championship, and in 2001 the USPRO criterium championship. Doping In 2002, O'Bee was suspended for a year after testing at the 2001 US championship showed an elevated testosterone-to-epitestosterone ratio. O'Bee said the positive drug test "resulted from a special training regimen recommended by his coach, which involved dietary supplements and exercise." O'Bee was fired by the Bissell team on July 31, 2009, for a doping violation. On October 7, 2010, the United States Anti-Doping Agency handed O'Bee a lifetime ban for EPO usage. Brian Walton (cyclist)
Brian Clifford Walton (born December 18, 1965) is a Canadian cycling coach and former professional road and track cyclist. His racing career spanned 18 years, racing professionally for North American pro teams 7-Eleven, Motorola, and Saturn. He represented Canada at the Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, and the Olympic Games in 1988, 1996 and 2000. He won a silver medal in the points race at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Walton was inducted into the BC Sports Hall of Fame in 2006. Walton is a former partner at Cadence Performance Cycling Center in Philadelphia. He now is the president of Walton Endurance. Mark Hume McCormack (November 6, 1930 – May 16, 2003) was an American lawyer, sports agent and writer. He was the founder and chairman of International Management Group, now IMG, an international management organization serving sports figures and celebrities.
