Garcinia Forbesii
''Garcinia forbesii'', commonly known as the rose kandis or kandis, is a small to medium-sized tree in the family Clusiaceae (Guttiferae). The Botanical nomenclature, specific epithet (''forbesii'') honors Scottish naturalist Henry Ogg Forbes. Distribution ''Garcinia forbesii'' is found in Southeast Asia and is native to Indonesia, Malaysia, Brunei, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, and southern Thailand. Description The tree rarely exceeds in height domestically but has been recorded at heights of nearly in the wild and produces a round, smooth, small fruit which is red to white in color and has edible arils, which have been described as being similar to mangosteen in flavor. The trunk is straight and the foliage is dense, often concealing the trunk with branches appearing relatively close to the ground. George King (botanist)
Sir George King (12 April 1840 – 12 February 1909) was a British botanist who was appointed superintendent of the Royal Botanic Garden, Calcutta in 1871, and became the first Director of the Botanical Survey of India from 1890. He was recognised for his work in the cultivation of cinchona and for setting up a system for the inexpensive distribution of quinine throughout India through the postal system. Early life George was born in Peterhead, Aberdeenshire, to Robert King and Cecilia Anderson. Lichexanthone was first isolated and identified by Japanese chemists from a species of leafy lichen in the 1940s. Xanthones
Xanthone is an organic compound with the molecular formula O 6H4sub>2CO. It is a white solid.
