Galiza Ceibe-OLN
Galiza Ceibe-OLN (in English: ''Liberated Galiza-National Liberation Organization'') was an independentist and socialist political party in Galicia, Spain. Galiza Ceibe was founded on 1980 by the Galician Party of the Proletariat (''Partido Galego do Proletariado, PGP'') as a political and electoral front, originally to present a list in Vigo and in other galician municipalities under the name Agrupación Electoral Galicia Ceibe in the 1979 local elections. History Foundation and dissolution of the PGP The list gained 1,926 votes (2.22%) and no seats in Vigo and 2 town councillors in Salvaterra de Miño. In 1980 the PGP transformed Galiza Ceibe-OLN in a political party. In 1981 the PGP dissolved itself, and its militants joined Galiza Ceibe. Espiral was the party newspaper. Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín
Xosé Luís Méndez Ferrín (Ourense, 7 August 1938) is a Galician writer and poet and is widely considered the highest representative of contemporary Galician literature. A doctor in philology, he studied philosophy at the University of Santiago de Compostela and Romanic philology at the University of Madrid. He teaches literature at the '' Instituto Santa Irene'' in Vigo. He also writes for the daily newspaper ''Faro de Vigo'' and directs the quarterly political critic magazine '' A Trabe Ouro''. Galician Unity
Galician Unity ( gl, Unidade Galega; UG) was a Galician nationalist and social democratic political coalition formed by the Galician Workers Party, Galician Socialist Party, and the Galicianist Party in 1979. History The coalition aimed at promoting a degree of autonomy and self-governance of Galicia from Spain equal to that of Catalonia and the Basque Country, other autonomous communities of Spain. The coalition also promoted the adoption of a statute of autonomy for Galicia (like the 1978 Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country and the 1979 Statute of Autonomy of Catalonia). This goal was achieved with the Galician Statute of Autonomy of 1981. Galician Autonomy Referendum, 1980
A referendum on the approval of the Galician Statute of Autonomy was held in Galicia on Sunday, 21 December 1980. Voters were asked whether they ratified a proposed Statute of Autonomy of Galicia bill organizing the provinces of La Coruña, Lugo, Orense and Pontevedra into an autonomous community of Spain. The final draft of the bill had been approved following an inter-party agreement on 26 September 1980, but it required ratification through a binding referendum and its subsequent approval by the Spanish Cortes Generales, as established under Article 151 of the Spanish Constitution of 1978. The referendum resulted in 78.8% of valid votes in support of the bill on a turnout of just 28.3%. Once approved, the bill was submitted to the consideration of the Cortes Generales, which accepted it on 17 February 1981 (in the Congress of Deputies) and 17 March (in the Spanish Senate), receiving royal assent on 6 April and published in the Official State Gazette on 28 April 1981. The Galician People's Union ( gl, Unión do Povo Galego) is a Galician nationalist and communist political party, and is one of the registered political parties of Spain. The party publishes the magazine ''Terra e Tempo'', and the secretary general is Néstor Rego. It was founded in 1964 with the intention of the independence of Galicia and its transformation into a socialist state. O Barco de Valdeorras is a municipality in Ourense (province) in the Galicia region of north-west Spain. It lies towards the very north-east of Ourense province.
