GalileoMobile
GalileoMobile is a non-profitscience education organization that brings astronomy closer to young people worldwide. The GalileoMobile emphasis is on regions with little or no access to knowledge about astronomy. Created in late 2008 on an inspiration from the 2009 International Year of Astronomy, GalileoMobile is run by a group of astronomers, educators, and science communicators. The GalileoMobile team organises workshops for teachers and astronomy-related activities for students in schools and villages To encourage follow-up activities GalileoMobile also donates a Galileoscope or a "You are Galileotelescope" a copy of the GalileoMobile Handbook, a UNAWE Earthball, and other educational material. In GalileoMobile's first project the team travelled across the Andes High Plateau in Chile, Bolivia, and Peru in 2009. International Year Of Light
The International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies 2015 or International Year of Light 2015 (IYL 2015) was a United Nations observance that aimed to raise awareness of the achievements of light science and its applications, and its importance to humankind. International Year Of Astronomy
The International Year of Astronomy (IYA2009) was a year-long celebration of astronomy that took place in 2009 to coincide with the 400th anniversary of the first recorded astronomical observations with a telescope by Galileo Galilei and the publication of Johannes Kepler's ''Astronomia nova'' in the 17th century. The Year was declared by the 62nd General Assembly of the United Nations. A global scheme, laid out by the International Astronomical Union (IAU), was also endorsed by UNESCO, the UN body responsible for educational, scientific, and cultural matters. Galileoscope
The Galileoscope is a small mass-produced refractor telescope, designed with the intention of increasing public interest in astronomy and science. It was developed for the International Year of Astronomy 2009. It is meant to be an inexpensive means by which millions of people can view the same things seen by Galileo Galilei, such as the craters of Earth's Moon, four of Jupiter's moons, and the Pleiades. The small telescope has an aperture of and a relatively long focal length of 500 mm, for a focal ratio of f/10. Design and configurations The Galileoscope uses a focuser, giving the telescope a great deal of versatility, since this is the standard size for eyepieces used in most amateur and some professional telescopes. Universe Awareness
Universe Awareness or (UNAWE) is an international programme that aim to expose very young children in under-privileged environments to astronomy. History Inception In 2004, Leiden University professor George K. Miley first began exploring the idea of setting up an astronomy programme to educate and inspire young children, especially those from underprivileged backgrounds. He had been awarded an Academy Professorship by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences and decided to use part of the associated funding to explore the feasibility of setting up such a programme. With considerable support and encouragement from Claus Madsen at ESO, a successful workshop was held in Germany and it was agreed that the programme was worth pursuing.
