Gabalfa Railway Station
Gabalfa is a proposed railway station on the Merthyr line in the Gabalfa district of Cardiff, Wales. The station would be on the South Wales Metro and be part of the Wales & Borders franchise. It is planned to open in 2028. It will be located on an old coal yard next to the existing railway. This followed significant local petitioning for a railway station from Gabalfa and Mynachdy. Gabalfa
Gabalfa (, ) is a district and community in the north of the city of Cardiff, capital of Wales. It is characterised by a four-lane fly over road at the Gabalfa Interchange, where the A48 road meets the A470 road (North Road) which leads from Cardiff to northern Wales, and the A469 road ( Caerphilly Road). The name is derived from the Welsh 'Ceubalfa', which is literally translated as 'place of the boat'. It was formerly the site of a ferry crossing across the River Taff, upon which a school is now built. The area was first heavily developed in the 1880s, with most of the characteristic terraced housing originating from the next 30 years of construction. The South Wales Metro () is an integrated heavy rail, light rail and bus-based public transport services and systems network in South East Wales around the hub of . The first phase was approved for development in October 2013. Works are currently underway with a brand new depot under construction at Taff's Well and new trains being constructed at the Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) factory in Newport. Mynachdy () is a district of the city of Cardiff, Wales. Mynachdy is situated between Gabalfa, Birchgrove and Cathays. Mynachdy is often paired with neighbouring Gabalfa, and shares its councillors. It is close to a few universities such as Cardiff University and the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama, as well as student accommodation. Name The word "mynachdy" comes from the Welsh words "mynach" (monk) and "tŷ" (house). This probably refers to Llys Talybont, a manor building in the modern area of Mynachdy that was owned by the monks of Llantarnam Abbey. Mynachdy Institute The Mynachdy Institute is a community centre in Mynachdy. There have been many threats of closure, with plans to replace it with student flats. Llandaf Railway Station
Llandaf railway station is in Llandaff North, Cardiff, Wales. It serves the areas of Llandaff North and Whitchurch. History The Taff Vale Railway opened the station in 1840, only ten years after the first stations for locomotive-drawn trains had been opened on the Liverpool and Manchester Railway. Originally named ''Llandaff'', the station had been renamed ''Llandaff for Whitchurch'' by 1910, and on 12 May 1980 it was again renamed ''Llandaf''. In 2015 work started on replacing the old footbridge with one that offers step-free access to all platforms. This was funded by Network Rail and the Department of Transport Access for all Scheme. A new ticket office opened in November 2017 to replace the old station building (on platform 2) which is open six days a week.
