GM Ringway
The GM Ringway is a long-distance walking trail in Greater Manchester, England. It traces a circular path around the city-region through each of the 10 boroughs and covers approximately in total. It is designed around existing footpaths, parks and open-access land. The project is supported by the Greater Manchester Combined Authority as well as The Ramblers and CPRE, the walking and countryside charities, respectively. History In June 2022, The Ramblers and CPRE charities were awarded a £250,000 grant by the National Lottery Heritage Fund to establish the GM Ringway. The grant enabled signposting and an improved app and website to be established. It will also support the organisation of community events across all 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester. In February 2023, it was reported that Tom Ross, the leader of Trafford Metropolitan Borough Council, was one of the first people to complete the walking trail in its entirety, over the course of around one year. Broadbottom
Broadbottom is a village in Tameside, Greater Manchester, England. Historically in Cheshire, it stands on the River Etherow which forms the border with Derbyshire. Description Home Farm dates from 1604 and Broadbottom Hall from 1680. There was a 14th-century water-powered corn mill and an 18th-century woollen mill, called ''Moss Mill'', which converted to producing cotton in the 19th century. Strines is a village in Greater Manchester, in the valley of the River Goyt. It is located midway between Marple and New Mills, about six miles south-east of Stockport. The village falls within the Marple parish and the Metropolitan Borough of Stockport. Sale Water Park
Sale Water Park is a area of parkland including a artificial lake in the Metropolitan Borough of Trafford in Greater Manchester, England. Opened in 1979 and owned by Trafford Council, the water park lies in an area of the green belt running through the Mersey river valley between Sale and Stretford, located between the river and the M60 motorway. The lake was formed in the 1970s by the flooding of a gravel pit excavated to provide material for the construction of an embankment raising the motorway above the Mersey's floodplain. The pit was excavated to a depth of around , making the lake about deep in places. The land occupied by the water park was formerly within the grounds of Sale Old Hall, demolished in 1920. Manchester Metrolink (branded locally simply as Metrolink) is a tram/ light rail system in Greater Manchester, England. The network has 99 stops along of standard-gauge route, making it the most extensive light rail system in the United Kingdom.
