Finnish Floorball Federation
Founded in 1985, the Finnish Floorball Federation (SSBL) ( fi, Suomen Salibandyliitto, sv, Finlands Innebandyförbund) is the governing body for floorball in the country of Finland. The SSBL's number of professional licensed players is 39,104 (in May 2006), making it the nation's third most popular sport, after association football and ice hockey. The SSBL organizes the Salibandyliiga and Finnish Floorball Cup competitions. Alongside the top National Floorball League, there is another league where over 1800 teams compete in 10 divisions (6 male, 4 female). Organisation The clubs competing in the SSBL divisions are represented on the "Congress", with a number of votes (between one and three) proportional to the number of registered players at a club. Matti Ahde
Matti Allan Ahde (23 December 1945 – 20 December 2019) was a Finnish politician from the Social Democratic Party. Ahde was born in Oulu. He was a member of the parliament from 1970 to 1990, when he left to become CEO of the state monopoly Veikkaus. Ahde held minister posts in Sorsa's cabinets 1982–1987 and was elected Speaker of the Parliament in 1987. He was replaced as the speaker by Kalevi Sorsa in 1989 when Sorsa stepped down from Holkeri's cabinet to make the position available for party chairman Pertti Paasio. Ahde quit as CEO of Veikkaus in 2001 and was re-elected to the parliament in 2003. Turku ( ; ; sv, Åbo, ) is a city and former capital on the southwest coast of Finland at the mouth of the Aura River, in the region of Finland Proper (''Varsinais-Suomi'') and the former Turku and Pori Province (''Turun ja Porin lääni''; 1634–1997). Floorball In Finland
Floorball is a type of floor hockey with five players and a goalkeeper in each team. Men and women play indoors with sticks and a plastic ball with holes. Matches are played in three twenty-minute periods. The sport of bandy also played a role in the game's development. The game was invented in Sweden in the late 1960s. The basic rules were established in 1979 when the first floorball club in the world, Sala IBK, from Sala, was founded in Sweden. Official rules for matches were first written down in 1981. At the 1997 Floorball Women's World Championship in Godby and Mariehamn, Åland, Finland, the team finished second. Finland Men's National Floorball Team
Finland Men's National Floorball Team is the national floorball team of Finland. The national team was founded in 1985 and they played their first official game against Sweden in 1985. Finland has won four World Championships (2008, 2010, 2016, 2018) and 1 European Championships (1995). Finland has appeared in every World and European Championships tournament organised by the IFF and is the only team with Sweden to have won such a tournament. F-liiga (women)
F-liiga is the highest-tier of floorball for women in Finland. The league was founded as Salibandyn naisten SM-sarja (English language, English: ''Women's Floorball Finnish Championship'') in 1988 by the Finnish Floorball Federation (SSBL). The former name, ''Naisten Salibandyliiga'', was introduced for the 2000–01 season and its current name for the 2020–21 season. The ''F-liiga'' is operated by ''SSBL Salibandy Oy'', a limited corporation owned entirely by the Finnish Floorball Federation. The F-liiga is the top men’s floorball league in Finland. The league was founded as Salibandyn SM-sarja (English: Floorball Finnish Champions-Series) in 1986 by the Finnish Floorball Federation (SSBL). It was renamed to Salibandyliiga for the 1994–95 season. The ''Salibandyliiga'' was operated by the company ''SSBL Salibandy Oy'', a subsidiary of the Finnish Floorball Federation. The current name F-liiga is used since season 2020–21. The champion of the league is eligible to compete at the Champions Cup. Format Regular season The regular season is played in a round robin format with each team playing 26 games. The total number of regular season games is 182.
