Fegmania!
''Fegmania!'' is the fourth studio album by Robyn Hitchcock and his first with his backing band The Egyptians. The Egyptians included the former Soft Boys Andy Metcalfe and Morris Windsor. "The Man with the Lightbulb Head" was conceived on Archway Road in London and provided a springboard for Hitchcock's first attempt at film making for a promotional video. Stills from the video were reproduced as cover art for the front and back of the LP sleeve. The album was quickly followed by the live album, ''Gotta Let This Hen Out!'', recorded at one gig at The Marquee Club in Wardour Street, London. Reissues Eight bonus tracks were added to the subsequent Rhino CD reissue of the album, including an acoustic demo of "Insect Mother" which had been recorded for possible inclusion in the earlier ''I Often Dream of Trains'', and "The Pit of Souls", a lengthy psychedelic instrumental in four 'movements'. Gotta Let This Hen Out!
''Gotta Let This Hen Out!'' is a live recording of Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians recorded in April 1985, shortly after the group had come together for ''Fegmania!''. The set was recorded at the Marquee and the tapes cleaned up for release at Alaska Studios with minor drop-in overdubs. The gig was also videotaped and appeared on VHS with a few additional numbers, interspersed with several studio recordings available through their promo videos. The material selected for this album includes titles ranging through Hitchcock's back catalogue, from Soft Boys songs ("Kingdom Of Love", "The Face Of Death") through his first solo album ("Acid Bird", "Brenda's Iron Sledge") and up to the recently released ''Fegmania!'' ("Heaven", "My Wife and My Dead Wife"). Robyn Rowan Hitchcock (born 3 March 1953) is an English singer-songwriter and guitarist. While primarily a vocalist and guitarist, he also plays harmonica, piano, and bass guitar. After leading the Soft Boys in the late 1970s and releasing the influential '' Underwater Moonlight'', Hitchcock launched a prolific solo career. His musical and lyrical styles have been influenced by Bob Dylan, John Lennon, Syd Barrett, Captain Beefheart, Martin Carthy, Lou Reed, Roger McGuinn and Bryan Ferry. ''Luminous Groove'' is a 2008 compilation box set of the albums ''Fegmania!'' (March 1985), '' Gotta Let This Hen Out'' (October 1985) and ''Element of Light'' (1986) by Robyn Hitchcock and the Egyptians. The box set was issued on CD and vinyl. The versions included in the CD box set are the extended reissues from YepRoc. The set also includes 2 discs of B-sides and rarities called ''Bad Case of History''. (The vinyl set had all the extra tracks from the extended CDs removed. These were re-assembled onto three LPs, with another two LPs of B-sides and rarities, as per the CD set.) I Often Dream Of Trains
''I Often Dream of Trains'' is the third album by Robyn Hitchcock, released in 1984. It is Hitchcock's first acoustic-based album. After the break-up of The Soft Boys, Hitchcock recorded two solo albums — 1981's '' Black Snake Diamond Role'' and 1982's poorly received '' Groovy Decay'' — before hitting an artistic slump mitigated only by some collaborations with Captain Sensible. Hitchcock worked odd jobs, including a stint as a gardener and a journalist. Hitchcock felt compelled to return to music after listening to ''Wading Through a Ventilator'', a 1984 EP that compiles The Soft Boys' early singles. He wanted to make a fully solo album that, he would later comment, "only I could be blamed for". In the field of recorded music, a hidden track (sometimes called a ghost track, secret track or unlisted track) is a song or a piece of audio that has been placed on a CD, audio cassette, LP record, or other recorded medium, in such a way as to avoid detection by the casual listener. Robin Miriam Carlsson (born 12 June 1979), known as Robyn (), is a Swedish pop singer, songwriter, record producer, and DJ. Roger McGuinn
James Roger McGuinn (born James Joseph McGuinn III; July 13, 1942) is an American musician. He is best known for being the frontman and leader of the Byrds. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for his work with the Byrds. As a solo artist he has released 10 albums and collaborated with, among others, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty and Chris Hillman. The 12-string Rickenbacker guitar is his signature instrument. Pete Seeger
Peter Seeger (May 3, 1919 – January 27, 2014) was an American folk singer and social activist. A fixture on nationwide radio in the 1940s, Seeger also had a string of hit records during the early 1950s as a member of the Weavers, notably their recording of Lead Belly's "Goodnight, Irene", which topped the charts for 13 weeks in 1950. Members of the Weavers were blacklisted during the McCarthy Era. Idris Davies
Idris Davies (6 January 1905 – 6 April 1953) was a Welsh poet. Born in Rhymney, near Merthyr Tydfil in South Wales, he became a poet, originally writing in Welsh, but later writing exclusively in English. He was the only poet to cover significant events of the early 20th century in the South Wales Valleys and the South Wales Coalfield, and from a perspective literally at the coalface. He is now best known for the verses " Bells of Rhymney", from his 1938 ''Gwalia Deserta'' (meaning literally "Wasteland of Wales"), which were later adapted into a popular folk song.
